"Keep Ya Head Up: Prodigy Speaks on Jail, Philly Cops, and Illa Ghee's Advice to him" Interviewed By Badnews
Posted at 6/20/2008 12:04:00 AM
Prodigy might be on the inside serving his time, but his words are out walking free as a bird. I got another chance to ask The Queensbridge Rapper some more questions and i tried to throw everything at him and see what he thinks about things includung the rift between Young Buck and 50 so check it out because if your a fan of real hip hop, you'll be glad you did.Badnews: How have you been managing your time since you been in?
Prodigy: I've been just try’na keep myself busy with interviews, writing, reading, and working out. Just keeping my mind busy.
Badnews: Did you expect the album HNIC 2 to do so well?
Prodigy: Yeah definitely cause I worked hard on it and I put my all into it, so I definitely expect the feedback to be the same. I expected people to love it.
Badnews: On the album the music sounds a lot darker is that route you were trying to go?
Prodigy: Nah, I was just being myself, really. Mobb Deep is known for making dark music. That's our style; so, I was just thinking of what we really do.
Badnews: What is the feedback your getting from the HNIC 2 on the inside?
Prodigy: People are really loving it inside. A lot of the C.O.'s are supporting it. They're banging it on their way to the jail every morning. Ya know, I was kinda surprised by that.
Badnews: When was the last time you spoke to Havoc? Does he have anything in the works?
Prodigy: Hav is doing production for a whole lot of people. He does R&B and Rap. So, he's constantly working. That's what he's doing right now.
Badnews: You have a track featuring Un Pachino speaking on the sean bell case. what are your thoughts of al sharpton getting arrested with sean bell's fiance not to long ago?
Prodigy: I was mad as hell I wasn't home to get arrested with them. Cause I would of went to jail with them. I was watching it on the news. I was at Downstate at that time and I was mad as hell, like DAM-- I wish I was home; that was a good cause.
Badnews: If you heard about the officers in Philadelphia that were fired over beating a couple of suspects on TV, do you feel that the punishment of the officers fit the crime?
Prodigy: I didn't hear about their punishment, but I saw that and it looked like Rodney King to me. They were beating the shit out those people like somebody was fighting back. All that was uncalled for. These people were on the ground, ya know what I'm saying. So, they got Taisers, they could of taised someone, put the cuffs on em'. All that kicking and punching -- that is uncalled for. They were using excessive, excessive force and I feel that they should be punished. Just like anyone else that does that, ya know what I mean.
Badnews: Can we expect more music from you after HNIC on any mixtapes? if so who which producers will be manning the project or projects?
Prodigy: I ain’t really doing no mixtapes. The only mixtape I did for this HNIC2 album was "Return of the Mac," that was my mixtape to promote this album. Ya know, Alchemist did that one with me. But until I get home, I'm not really working on any mixtapes for this album. I got a DVD dropping in July 8th with videos for every song off of HNIC2. I got a bunch of projects out promoting this album like: Grand Theft Auto IV game, I'm on "Keek the Sneak," album, Two movies about to drop; one with QD3, talking about my case. So, there's a lot I'm doing to promote this album and I've definitely stayed away from the mixtape thang. But ya gonna definitely have DJ's that put their own mixtapes together, but ain't have nothing to do with me, really.Badnews: How do you feel about the numbers of your website HNIC2.com?
Prodigy: I feel good about it. It’s growing day by day and that's how it works, ya know what I mean. When I get home, I'll be able to promote it more, ya know, take it step by step.
Badnews: What do you think about the Young Buck/G-Unit situation?
Prodigy: I really don't have an opinion on that cause that's personal--that 50's business. Ya know, 50's the boss of G-Unit so whatever he chooses to do is his decision. Buck was cool with me, ya know, when we was on tour. But uh, everything that's going on now, that's up to 5th. I really don't have a say in that.
Badnews: In a recent interview i talked to Illa Ghee and basically the only words he had for you was "hold your head". What other advice or props have you gotten and have they been helpful?
Prodigy: Yeah, I get a lot of advice from people ya know, prisoners locked up, C.O's, my peoples on the street that has been locked up before. They all say the same thing: hold ya head, stay busy, keep ya mind busy, workout, and read a lot. Ya know, stay busy and the time will fly. I got short time, I'm not doing a long sentence like most people are here. A lot of people got 10 years, 15/20 years; my sentence is short time, so it'll fly by.
Badnews: You said when you go in your going to focus on your education how is that going so far?
Prodigy: It’s going good, I've read a lot of books that I wouldn't have probably read on the streets. Ya know, I be so busy on tour, in the studio, running around trying to keep the family fed and roof over our head. So, I really had no time to sit down and read a thousand page book. Now in here, I can read a thousand page book in 5 days and educate myself like that. I've been reading a lot and plus soon I'll be getting my GED here. You gotta keep ya mind occupied--if you just sit in the cell doing nothing ya days go by slowly. But if ya doing something, time flies by.
Lastly, look out for everything I'm doing now. Cop that HNIC2 album in-stores now and the DVD Collection releasing in July 8th, Grand Theft Auto IV, and look out for Alchemist's album "Chemical Warfare."
Its on right now, people acting like I'm down for life. I'll be right back, remember that. P will be right back and then what ya gone do.

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOME"Moment of Clarity" MIMS interviewed and written by Badnews
Posted at 6/03/2008 08:46:00 PM
MIMS has been on the ride of his life in 2007 ever since he released his hip hop classic “This Is Why I’m Hot”. The Capitol recording artist has 3 million ringtone sales under his belt as well as a couple chart toppers to brag about, but ever since his last single like this helped him move over 300,000 units we couldn’t find him anywhere. And then the rumors started. Well MIMS has been on his grind and he refuses to be branded as a one hit wonder (and you should know he isn’t one if you really listened to his album). But the man of the hour is back and he talks to MIMS in this exclusive interview about where the hell he’s been his next studio project and most importantly to address his role in the 50 cent/Rocsi drama. So check out the interview and shout out to E-Class.Badnews: There’s been a lot of talk about you during the past year, and even more in the past 24 to 48 hours, and I want to talk about that but first, I just want to get into how you been doing. We really haven’t heard from you in some time right now and we just want to know what’s been going on with you as far as putting out a new record. But what have you been doing the past few months?
MIMS: You know the rise of “this is why I’m hot” and the accolades that came with it… it sold 3 million ringtones and did over 300,000 in album sales, and then the next single “like this": topped out on the charts—it landed in the top 10, I just wanted to fall back and get ready for my next album. I didn’t want that song and the hype that came with it to define who I am. I wanted that to sort of calm down, and come back stronger with my next album.
Badnews: Ok cool. Now your album Music is my Savior was a solid great album, and it had a lot of good songs on there; Doctor, Doctor was my personal favorite, but do you think this is why I’m hot’s success overshadowed the album?
MIMS: definitely. If you get enough people against something you worked on then you can’t do anything about it. I didn’t want people to get the wrong idea about it and think there was no energy being put forward toward the rest of the songs. A lot of people just know me for the first two singles and a lot of talk-- or hate rather made people think the whole point of the album was just this is why I’m hot. But I like to think I’m a versatile artist. I can make records like “this is why I’m hot” and then make records like “Doctor, Doctor”. That alone puts me in another category, but hate comes with the territory and that makes me an underdog. I think being the underdog is best position to be in because it forces you to show and prove, and the hate that comes with it fuels you to be better and stronger.
Badnews: That’s what’s up. Now how with the second studio album from you sound?
MIMS: It’s going to be more witty and clever. I have experienced a lot in the past year. This album will have more variety. Like I said I think I’m a versatile artist; I can make club bangers and then come back with songs like Doctor, Doctor but a lot of people didn’t figure that out the first time. I just want people to know I’m not a dummy. I’m not some dummy off the streets who cant count or manage his own money, I want my fans as well as other people to know who MIMS really is.
Badnews: And as of right now, how far are you to completing the album?
MIMS: Right now I’m in phase two of the process. I’m really digging into the album, Capitol is on board and there backing me and this album will have balance. I’ll have big name producers and up and coming producers on the album. I don’t want to over work the album, it will be complete and balanced.
Badnews: Well that’s something to look forward to. Now going back a little bit, I read a quote; something Jermaine Dupri said in a magazine and basically it said that MIMS will bring the east coast back. So my question is do you yourself feel you can bring it back single handedly by yourself or will you need others?
MIMS: That’s a good question. Well there is a lot of talent on the east coast. Not from just New York but I mean coming from Boston and Philly. I definitely wouldn’t mind collaborating with cats that work hard but I don’t think about that, I just make music for everybody. Honestly I feel it shouldn’t even really be about that, it should be about who is making the best music right now.
Badnews: That’s what’s up. Do you feel you can come back stronger and be in the same space that you were in this same time last year?
MIMS: Definitely. I have the experience now but I’m not being stupid, I’m being realistic. You have to crawl before you walk. I stepped deeper into the industry, but I’m just focusing on making music that my fans will enjoy.
Badnews: Do you feel any pressure for this album to do well?
MIMS: No not at all. I’m finically straight; the only real pressure you have is to make money. I was blessed with a good tour run, I’m doing well finically, unless I retire or quit rapping I won’t have pressure… and the answer to that is no I’m not retiring. But to answer the question, no I’m not feeling any pressure, I just want to come out and make good music.
Badnews: That’s good to hear. Now I’m glad you brought up retiring, because like I said, there is a lot of speculation and rumors surrounding you and I think that was in part because we haven’t heard from you in a while. There’s not enough time in the world to confirm everything that was said, but the major ones that caught my attention were 1. You got dropped from the label, 2.you’re broke now and 3. You moved out of the country. So could you please confirm those to be true or not true please?
MIMS: Definitely. I didn’t leave the country; I have a place in New York. I travel all the time to the west coast or down south and I show love to those people and artists down there because they show me so much love back. I travel a lot; I’ve been outside the country a lot, but I didn’t move out there. No I’m not broke or living on the streets not that that’s anybody’s business but I’m doing well finically, and I’m not beefing with anyone in the industry. I don’t carry on like that; I just make my music and try not to acquire any problems or beef with anyone. I don’t come out with diss songs or make innuendos to other artists; I just focus on making good music. I’m in a good position right now, and I can’t blow it.Badnews: That’s what’s up. Now for the past couple days we have been hearing about the Rocsi/50 Cent fallout and basically there was this clip that surfaced of a DJ speaking with Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks about Rocsi’s private sex life, and the DJ basically didn’t name names, but dropped hints on some industry people she slept with, and a lot of people are speculating that you were one of the artist mentioned. So if you could please confirm if there speculating correctly.
MIMS: Definitely. One thing that I don’t do is lie on my balls. Rocsi and I are cool. I’ve known her for a while and I did not sleep with her. It’s false. All those are just rumors. I never got down with her like that.
Badnews: So nothing went down with you and Rocsi sexually period.
MIMS: Nothing at all. Were friends and that’s it.
Badnews: Okay cool. I just asked that because the DJ obviously isn’t saying names but he is dropping hints and clues and everybody went crazy with that. What do you say to deter these rumors coming from the people that will still say its still you even after you jut said its not?
MIMS: I can’t control what people say. I just cleared the air though. You know how the industry likes to twist things. I will always tell the truth and just focus on myself. I’m not into all that controversy stuff.
Badnews: That’s what’s up. Okay not that that’s over with, I want to get back into the record again. Are there any set in stone dates as far as a release date on your next project?
MIMS: Right now no there isn’t. I hope we can drop the album by the end of the year. I will definitely check back with you and let you know when it is dropping. But I’m looking towards a 4th quarter drop; you know that’s when all the big dogs drop so we hopefully will make something happen there.
Badnews: Well you are definitely a big dog yourself and you proven that last year. Ok, and what else are you working on I know you have your label American King Music, what going on with that as far as the moves your making?
MIMS: Well things are still dry to be honest. I’m working with a new artist by the name of Jason Derulo; he’s a pop singer. But I don’t know there are a lot of things going on, were doing a lot of things with radio. Were basically a quiet label, you won’t really hear about what were doing because we won’t broadcast them like that. But we are definitely putting out music.
Badnews: That’s the best way to get out there. Okay great so it sounds like your gearing up for a real busy year. Like I said I’m a fan, I really do think that your album is a great album, and hopefully everyone else will understand that when you drop this album. That’s really all the questions I had, I really want to thank you for your time. Do you have any shout outs?
MIMS: Thank you for doing this I appreciate this. Shout out to E-Class he’s keeping me busy and American King Music. And just my fans supporting me and my music and I will definitely get this second album out there you will get to know who MIMS is.

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOME"Rosci, Can I Talk To You?" by BadNews
Posted at 5/22/2008 07:38:00 PM
What’s good people, long time no see but that’s because we are on a mission to take hiphopruckus.com to a whole new level. But I had to respond to my boy Destro’s Rocsi and 50 cent topic. First off I can’t lie. I was kind of perplexed for some reason why the title of the topic was named “50 cent talks bad about Rosci”, and then I realized it 30 seconds later that 50 will always be the bad guy. Even if it means responding to an old tape of Rocsi talking to beloved host Kendra G. about the “battle between Kanye and 50". Let’s me break this down.
I don’t know who leaked the tape first but all I can tell you is that I seen it first on worldstarhiphop.com, you know Bill O’ Reilly’s favorite site, and it was a picture of YOUR favorite host Rosci with her mouth wide open and looking a little tipsy and right under the picture was a caption that stated Rosci: 50 Cent is garbage. So you know I had to click on it. And sure enough, it was YOUR favorite host Rocsi digging a hole for herself saying exactly word to word what the caption said. Now I don’t know when this was taken but obviously it had to been shot before September of 2007 because the conversation was obviously about the Kanye/50 war of the sales. I can’t stand this nonsense so I got to say this…
Rocsi was obviously tipsy at a party and she must had been thinking she had on her superwoman cape or even her BET “I’m rubber your glue whatever bounces off me sticks to you" leash. But Rocsi should have simply shut her tipsy ass up and gave Kendra G. an industry answer. I can’t believe this chick really said what she said especially for someone in her position knowing damn well that whatever she says her demo graph will believe; you know everyone who watches the show will listen to this chick. If Rocsi thinks 50 is garbage, then her fans will think it too, and I’m not saying everyone who watches and likes Rocsi are robots, I’m just saying there is a good number of people who will believe her even if they didn’t think it before. I feel that Rosci needs to keep her personal opinions out of the spotlight especially about the music of the artists that go on there show to promote there projects. For someone who is in her position, she really is making dumb decisions. You know how many artists I talk to everyday that I have an opinion about on there music.
Bottom line, Rocsi is a prime example on why 106 and Park went down the tubes. The hosts are goofy and corny and they pretty much destroyed freestyle Friday. Rocsi, I don’t know you but I’ll be damned if I’m going to let our readers think that 50 Cent is starting nonsense again because of the audio posted earlier. Rocsi shot first. So please people don’t let her clip or even 50 Cent’s clip discourage you from buying T.O.S. or even watching 106 and Park. Have your own mind. Decide for yourself, not what your favorite celebrity is saying about the next person. Rocsi… get it together quick…. Real quick

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOME"Drop or Die!: Kaine and D-Roc Needs Your Vote" written and interviewed by Badnews
Posted at 5/11/2008 09:32:00 PM
The Ying Yang Twins have been off the radar for a little while, but that’s because they were in the lab in the “A” cooking up a new batch of club music just in time for the summer club scene. I got a chance to speak to the Atlanta dynamic crunk duo to discuss crunk music on life support, family and of course there new album. So check it out. Oh, and if you think they calmed down and gave a less than entertaining interview then your dead wrong.Badnews: What do people get most commonly get missed construed about you?
D-Roc: Were just down to earth regular dudes. Were not wild and crunk all the time, we do have common sense. I got kids I can’t be coming home to them all wild!
Kaine: Yep!
Badnews: Okay. Now you two met together while you were in middle school in Atlanta and you two are still together today, but what made you click at such an early age?
D-Roc: We never had beef. You create beef it doesn’t just come out of nowhere. Me and Kaine have always been easy slide on the bacon side
Kaine: Haaaaaaaaaaah!
Badnews: (Laughs) that’s what’s up. Now you two make club bangers with melodic hooks and your able to maintain that crunk on the album. How do you stay so energetic consistently… very consistently (Laughs)
D-Roc: Our music promotes the club. You don’t go to the club to stand around at least we don’t do that in the A, that’s like a rule. You go to the club to show out, drink a lot of liquor and holler at a chicken… talk to them chicken heads!
Kaine: Chicken head! (bwok bwok)
Badnews: (Laughs)
D-Roc: So our music gets you in that mode to have fun and let loose
Kaine: Haaaaaaaaaaaah!
Badnews: (Laughs) it definitely does. Now you two do crunk music, but it sort of died down. On this album your set to drop are you going to take advantage of trying something different?
Kaine: We stay in our own lane; we just do what we do. We won’t do anything different, were going to give you the Ying Yang Twins.
D-Roc: We don’t make crunk music. Lil Jon makes crunk music. He gets on a track and says “Fuck Nigga What! Fuck Nigga What! You aint never heard us do all that. Crunk is a style; it’s like a way of life, so we don’t do crunk music. But crunk aint dead, when Lil Jon decides to revive it then it will be back. But in the A, crunk is still aliveKaine: Clear! (Makes a shock noise then beeps)
Badnews: (Laughs) I feel that. Now let’s talk about the new album from the Ying Yang Twins…
D-Roc: Haaaaaaaaaaaaaah! The name of the album is The Ying and the Yang: Vote Ying Yang Twins for President and Drop is the first single off the record.
Badnews: What made you decide to choose drop as the first single to jump off the album?
Kaine: It just came upon itself. TVT heard it in the office and came to us and said it’s going to be a monster. The beat is different from what we usually do but its still us on the record. We have a lot of yang songs that have messages in them but people never hear that because they might skip over them and just play our yang songs. But we want to show the people that we have a serious side were not always loud and wild.
Badnews: Okay. Will the next single be another Yin Yang song?
Kaine: Oh no, the next one will definitely be a yang song.
Badnews: Well that’s something to look forward to. What’s the number one thing we can expect from the album?
D-Roc: Energy. We always brought energy and rapped outside the box. We speak for the ordinary man. We don’t brag in our songs, were not flashy. I mean we got cash but we represent the ordinary man.
Kaine: D-Roc is mad at me because I still live in the hood. He wants me to come out there.
Badnews: I definitely didn’t expect you to live in the hood but whatever makes you comfortable, I think you deserve to be comfortable at this point.
Kaine: Thank you.
Badnews: No Problem
D-Roc: Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Badnews: (Laughs) okay, we talked about the album when can we expect it to drop?
D-Roc: Well I aint gonna lie to you man, there is no release date yet but its definitely dropping this summer so it can be nice and ready for you all to act a fool!
Kaine: Haaaaaaaaaaaaaah!
Badnews: That’s what’s up. Now we talked about the record, we talked about you all a little bit, but what do you all listen to? What are your top five rap songs?
Kaine: Hmm… I Got Soul by Eric B. and Rakim. Queen Latifah- Give it to them Queen, Ghetto Boys; all there work, UGK Riding Dirty and Outkast everything from them I love there music.
D-Roc: Ok I had time think. Kris Kross- Jump Jump, 2Pac- Dear Mama, Biggie- all of his music, some old school Kilo you don’t know about him he’s a Atlanta rapper, and some Sammy Sam.
Badnews: Ok, that’s a nice well rounded list it speaks a lot about your music.
Kaine: Thank you, I had to think about that.
D-Roc: Haaaaaaah!
Badnews: (Laughs) Yo thank you for taking the time out to talk to me that’s all I really had but do you have any shout outs?
Kaine: Shout out to everyone at hiphopruckus.com and the readers reading this, because if it wasn’t for you there wouldn’t be any Ying Yang Twins.
D-Roc: What Kaine said. Haaaaaaaaaaah!
Badnews: (Laughs) Alright. Well thank you for your time good luck with everything
D-Roc: No thank you for talking to us.
Kaine: Thank you. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOME"Dynamic Duo: Meet the Killa Cali Producers the Avila Brothers" written and interviewed by Badnews
Posted at 5/02/2008 07:48:00 AM
These two super producers are veterans in the game that seems there just now being hoisted in the spotlight, but even if you take away Bobby and IZ (pronounced is) production credits on Usher’s classic 2004 hit Confessions which sold 1.1 million copies in one week, they would still be heard. I got a chance to talk with the two on a pleasant Monday afternoon about there new projects, growing up a Avila and why they think this genre is in a “unhealthy” state. So check out there thoughts and plans and what they expect in the 2008Badnews: You two have practically grown up playing instruments. How did you get into Production?
Bobby: It all started when we were at home. Our father was a musician who played a lot of top 40 and dance. When we were kids we would always rehearse almost everyday we would have an instrument in our hand.
Badnews: Now we all really know you for working with usher and helping sell all those confession records a while back, but what recent work can we expect from you two?
IZ: Well, were working with Usher again on his new album dropping soon. We currently are working with Anthony Hamilton on his new record the Point of it All, a Black Eye Pea member on his solo album. We also did a couple songs on Sean Garrett’s new album too
Badnews: So, you guys are definitely keeping busy. What’s the regimen when working with an artist? How do you two coordinate a session with an artist?
Bobby: We are music lovers first and foremost. When we work w
