"Hot Thing" by The Beast

Posted up on some of the walls of your local neighborhood barber shop is the usual wall piece - the fantasy calendar. In the hood, you can find many dawning a sexy lady in thongs and heels. It’s a cool novelty item because in certain occasions it can help pass the time while you await your turn for a cut from your favorite barber. In 2006, a new calendar from Buffie the Body hit the wall at my barber shop and drew more attention than a late close fourth quarter game between the Lakers and Cavs. Not even Kobe and Lebron could shake racing minds from skimming through all 12 months, and yes… May was my favorite because it’s the month that I was born in and Buffie definitely represented Taurus’s and Gemini’s well. Saying Buffie the Body these days represents a near icon, dream woman and role model for many. Before Angel Lola Luv and Delishes from Flavor of Love hit the scene, she was without a doubt the undisputed queen of ass with no near competition in site for a good minute, and despite an influx new models popping up nearly every month exploiting their sultry thick bottoms in videos, online sites and calendars, Buffie still remains to be the people’s choice and has no plans of letting that title evaporate.

Her rise to fame started in 2005 as the sexy video vixen in Tony Yayo’s video for “So Seductive.” That appearance in the video made Yahoo music, at the time still called Launch.com, a booty haven to watching it over and pausing at the right moment to catch when she turned side ways in a tight black dress that truly made the video oh so seductive. Thanks to MTV and BET, Buffie became a star literally overnight and she took full advantage of the huge window that was opened right in front of her. That summer she won “Goddess of the Year” at the Vibe Awards and voted XXL’s “Eye Candy of The Year” in 2005. Since that time, she’s been voted one of Smooth Magazines100 Hottest Women in The World,” XXL’s “Top 8 Eye Candy of all Time,” has appeared in more than 20 plus magazines, several videos, ads and films.

Aside from the physical, her energy as a business woman is clear and sound. As the force behind all the great success that she’s attained, she’s managed to do it all without the help of a crafty manager. “People would be amazed at how business savvy I am,” she says. Having gone through enough life lessons that bridged her IQ for the tests and pitfalls that have crumbled so many, her confidence and business sense have won over believers in the board room and respect from peers. Striking ringtone/screensaver deals from ringtone mobile carriers Jamster and QMobile, these are strong clues she’s no joke. In the current she’s also working on launching her on bottled water and creating a work out DVD. With the success of her recently re-launched website, annual calendars, behind the scene DVD’s and party hosting gigs, she’s completely hands on with all her projects. If you go to her MySpace page and request her as a friend, odds are she’s the one confirming the request and answering your questions on her down days from work that are spent in front of the computer at her office. Reading through hundreds of emails from women asking questions about how to break into the industry and how to get a nice ass, Buffie added a new e- book section on her www.BuffietheBody.com website to help give answers to those everyday questions.

Staying hands on keeps her in control of everything going on around her and leaves no room for paranoia in trusting that people are doing the right thing. “I don’t trust people. I have to work with people and I know this, but I always got one eye open.” We honestly can’t knock her for having such a high guard up because it’s been duly noted that sex and drug activity runs rampant in the industry that she and others work in, and in 2005, one fellow video model put the whole game on blast. KarrineSuperheadSteffans dropped a book called “Confessions of a Video Vixen” that aired the dirty laundry of several rappers, moguls and actors that she slept with for money and exposure while she was a video model. The book put Karrine on the map and thousands in her bank account, but put a blemish on the industry that gained so much negative press that VH1 did a documentary about it and gave the suburbs something to talk about. It left a stark impression that the name of the game is to sleep your way up. But like phrase says, “there’s always two sides to a story,” so just as Karrine’s experience was rocky, for Buffie the Body it’s been completely different. “I’m not even mad at her. I don’t even have any crazy feelings towards her because she did what she had to. I’m trying to show people that you don’t have to fuck, you don’t have to suck, you don’t have to do all of that - cause look at all the stuff I’ve done, all the magazines I’ve been in, all the money I’ve made, the household name and the whole nine yards and I didn’t have to sleep around,” she says.

To better give her perspective on the good and ugly side of the industry, she wants to one day write and release a book on her life in the game. “I almost wanna contradict the story that she (Karrine) put out because the industry hasn’t been bad to me.” Buffie’s success from magazines and videos have parlayed into other areas of entertainment. So before we see that book, she’ll be accepting more acting roles before the paper draws ink. Earlier in the year, there was much anticipation of her and DJ Kay Slay doing a reality show together called “Who Want Drama.” The show was supposed to capture the two as a couple hashing out disputes on such things as eating pork, attending strip clubs and answering the phone. “Yeah I thought it was funny, it was something we were doing in New York – me and Kay.” I asked her when would we see it on VH1 she said laughingly, “I doubt if you will ever see it on television because I don’t know how interested television is, but it’s just something we was doing for the internet.” Many may remember her role as “big bootyJudy in the 2006 summer Hip-Hop film ATL. She also appeared in another independent film called “Subtle Seduction” in 2007. So her appearing on the big screen more often is certainly destined to happen, but for now she’s working on a new show pilot for the small screen with friend and model Vida Guerra out in LA.

For Buffie, procrastination must be a foreign word because she doesn’t sit and let time fly by. Catching a break from photo shoots, plane flights and meetings is momentarily fixed by the smooth sounds of “The Commodores” and “Stylistics” that play in the background while she drives her car to the next destination of the day, but when reaches her spot and the CD stops, it’s time for work because like she says, “I got to get out and get it.”
