Nas is THE Illest...
Posted at 12/29/2007 03:46:00 PM

Who else but Nas? That's what I keep reading around the 'net. I say, more power to my brotha. People will say what they say. My next project will be Montana Mulatto. Ye heard... I got no qualms with this. People are saying he's an attention whore. I say, have you ever listened to a Nas record? Pick up "Street's Disciple." Nobody else did but me apparently. You're acting like Nas switched his style up for this record. Buggin. Dude been on this shit since "Illmatic." Do some research like the cavemen said in the Geico commercial. Nobody can touch dude lyrically. Rakim begat Nas and Nas begat all the rest of you crumzzzz. This ain't about the money. This is about all you so-called black leaders leading us back into slavery and mental confinement. How is that a half-black dude like myself has more pride than a lot of you shuckin' and jivin', yassa massa, house nigga sellout full-blooded bastards?? Tell me where's the logic? Sellin' yourselves out with that Hurricane Chris/Soulja Boy self-hatred garbage. They already think we're dumb. You are reinforcing that... It's not about the music. It's about the millions of white people who watch these videos and generalize that we're all simple-minded, happy/dancing negroes who love gold (platinum/ice... insert materialistic item here) more than Goldmember and can't take care of our kids. Do me a favor and search for "Read a Book" on YouTube... The best video of the year (tied with Murs' "Murray's Revenge.")
What you got to say???
Peace,
Dirt aka Montana...

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOME"Top 10 Artists of 2007" by Bad News
Posted at 12/28/2007 02:43:00 AMIn a recap of 2007, BadNews gives his rendition of what he thinks are the top 10 albums of 2007 from individual artist. Note: BadNews is just one man, if you agree or disagree leave a comment.
DJ Khaled: I have to give credit when its due, and hate it or not, this guy brought the heat in the summer when he dropped the single “We Takin' Over” featuring Birdman, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, T.I., Fat Joe and Akon, and he hit a home run with the record “I'm So Hood”. This DJ was consistent with the singles even though his album titled “We The Best” sold over 250k+ to date, there wasn’t a club in the country that didn’t play these songs. And I give him credit for keeping Terror Squad hot since Remy Ma’s departure. What he needs to work on: Not being a hater (*cough) play a damn Young Buck record (*cough *) (*cough)
Destro's Reaction: DJ Khaled is hella irrelevant. Noboby's gonna remember this fat Middle Eastern fool. He really needs to work on sticking to mixing and scratchin' and less of running his jibs about "We The Best". I also question why he continues to use the word "Nigga" in his songs. Who gave this bitch a pass?
Jay-Z: He came, He saw… He conquered again. Yes we know American Gangster is one of the best studio albums in ’07, and yes we know he's got the baddest chick in the game, but come on people, do you really think this man is so greedy that he suck up all the money from Def Jam to promote his album? If you said yes, then obviously we know who your rolling with, but once again Jay-Z did it. He managed to drop a better album than Kingdom Come but most of all, he didn’t flop. One thing he needs to work on: His relationship with Damon Dash. Look, I don’t care about nothing else. Jay and Dash need to squash it asap and get this money TOGETHER. Bring back 2001 again yall damn. And also stop retiring, we get it you’re the Jordan of rap… and lets try not to become a president of anymore major labels please. Stick with the Roc… especially your artists.
Destro's Reaction: Should Jay-Z be named G.O.A.T. cuz I do believe his one of the greatest lyricists of all time. On another tip, I think Damon D and Jay don't need to hook up Bad. Damon D is a shysty individual. Horrible track record.
Soulja Boy: SOULJA BOY UP IN THIS (OOOOOH!) yep this little boy made the list, but he made the list because you put him on here. Who? YOOOOOOU! Ok, ill calm down but damn yall he crushed ’07 with his complicated dance, Mr. Colipark was licking his chops when he seen that video. If you didn’t buy his album, I bet you seen his video on youtube a million times. Sorry Jason Foxx and the Heizman Boyz, but pretty much the country was cranking that super soaker or Robocop. Either way we were Joccin’ on them ho’s.What he needs to work on: Do what you did in ’07 in ’08 please don’t become another one hit wonder statistic
Destro Reaction: I do believe with the right hooks and production team, Soulja Boy could have some sustainability. Fuck the haters..
Polow Da Don: I bet every disgruntled black woman logged out when I typed this name, but for real… he gave Rich Boy a hot song "Throw some D’s on em". What more do you want. He produced hit after hit, honestly, he's the only reason why I though to look twice at Fergie’s music. He brought his heat from ’06 and spread out all his hits this year. The man is a beast. End of storyWhat he needs to work on: He needs to sit down and watch “Diary of a Mad Black Woman”… other than that keep up the good work
Destro's Reaction: "Every man should have a choice in what he wants. If you like vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate, than you have the rights to eat that. 'Nuff said"
Kanye West: You want some cheese with that whine? Ok, I know hes had a rough couple of months so I wont talk about MTV, but this man is a musical genious. He went toe to toe with Curtis and he won. He pulled all the stops out on 106 and Park September 11th, and he helped Vinny, Turtle, E and Drama get to Cannes. His albums deserve to be in your collection. Im going to leave it at that. Rest in Peace Dr. Donda West. What he needs to work on: Nothing. Don’t change. MTV give this man an apology and let him open up for the next 30 years. No more Brittany sheesh.
Destro's Reaction: Kanye's the greatest, however somebody needs to him to be basic with clothing game. Sometimes this nigga can really look like a clown sometimes, but I got mad respect for Kanye cuz he is definitely a relevant mc.
50 Cent: CURTISSS! Ok, he lost the compition, but he called it. Kanye went gold in a week but his second week sales dropped 70%. Hate him for telling the truth or love him for it, Curtis was a slept on record. This is probably the first time the ego overshadowed the music, but a real hip hop head will tell you Man down is one of the best records of ’07 and aside from squashing the beef with Jadakiss, im pretty sure hes looking for a new breed of beef inside hollywood. And speaking of which don’t be surprised if this man doesn’t make my ’08 list for the highly anticipated movie “Righteous Kill” starring Robert De Niro and Al Pacino… you remember the last time they hooked up, it was in this small Michael Mann movie titled “Heat”. Name the rapper that was in “heat” and ill give you a prize. Well I wont, but ill give you a cyber thumbs up.What he needs to work on: Going public with Ciara and not biting his tongue. Also sending me a free Pontiac.
Destro's Reaction: 50 Cent may be a slow rhyming mufucka, but you got to admit this nigga ain't slow when it comes to his paper, mane. Get your hustle on Curt....
Lil Wayne: Besides pictures of him kissing Birdman on the mouth surfacing on the net, and messing with Superhead, he managed to drop 77 songs in ’07, and most of them didn’t suck. Look i'm not trying to argue with you about if all this is bandwagon crap, but you were listing to Wayne in ’07. the question isn’t “is he overrated?” the question is more “What was your favorite wayne record?” if you ask me I would had said “PMW”What he needs to work on in 08: Stop kissing Birdman in the mouth and respond to Gillie Da Kid lyrically. And cut back on the kush.
Destro's Reaction: Yo, Weezy stick to love songs bitch cuz you will be highly irrelevant by the middle of next year. Mark my word. Hope you got some good knees, nigga.
Timbaland: If your surprised I said Timbo the King then you must had been in a coma the first six months of ’07. Beat after beat, hit after hit, this is one of the most creative producers in hip hop history, and he used ’07 to prove my point. Did you know that he even produced for Bjork? He reportedly said that he was getting sick of hip hop, I hope to god this isn’t true. He murdered ’07 and whats more important…. He brought Justin Timberlake and 50 cent together… just kidding, relaxWhat he needs to work on in 08: Refrain from busting heads overseas, I heard the cops don’t play over there.
Destro's Reaction: Tim was my man back when he was reppin' for Magoo and the rest of the VA crew, but lately this dude been crossing the line with these pop tart muufucckas. Damn cuz, go back to your roots and kick that funky shit you use to.
T-Pain: We can officially say he is the new Nate Dogg. He had the hottest verse in “I'm A Flirt”, he makes the best hooks ever. It doesn’t matter if you think he uses the synthicizor on his voice to make it seem like he can sing, he makes hits. The only way he's going to stop making hits is if he stays in his house for the next year and not go to the studio. All I want to know is if he really spends a million a year on his plane? What he needs to work on in 08: (Pauses) Give this dude a cartoon or something I don’t know, if its not broke don’t fix it.
Destro's Reaction: Yo, I agree with you Badnews. This nigga is a joke. His last album was garbage and also I'll say this, maybe he should do cartoons with Andre 3000. I tried to give away his last album to one of my homies. He almost spit in my face. Straight bumfoolery. Get that harmonica out your ass kid, it's not cool anymore.
UGK: How in the world could you leave them off the list? They got there credit in’07 and it was about time. Bun B and Pimp C dropped bombs and crushed the buildings. They truly legends in the game and the record “International Playas Anthem” made it very clear that they are two texas heavyweights.Destro's Reaction: UGK is the greatest southern hip hop duo ever, but most of you bastards didn't have any love for these cats until Pimp C was knocked off. Fair weather fans.

Rick Ross "Gettin' Mine" feat. Freeway & Fabolous (Audio)
Posted at 12/28/2007 02:25:00 AM
Hey, got this new track by Rick Ross called "Gettin' Mine" featuring Freeway and Fabolous (didn't that nigga just get knocked the fucked out on video?)
Anyways, this is an enjoyeable little joint on the shoot em up bang bang tip. Out of all the talent on this joint, I think Fab really ripped it up and was precise was his. Ricky Ross needs to step his bars up and talk about realistic shit though, like how many cheese burgers he just copped at Micky Ds or how many calories he just stacked. Nothing spectacular, next...

Fred Knuxx "Let's Talk About It" (Audio)
Posted at 12/27/2007 07:49:00 PM
Exclusive AudioOk, Your boi Destro is back up in this bitch. If you didn't already notice my main man Flo Dirt is taking over a piece of the creative activity here on the set so get ready for some really opinionated type shit...Feel me. In that token, I'm gonna be more straight up with the shit we push on HHR and if it's dope I play and give it kudos, if it's wack I'll still play it but I'll give the criticism it deserves. Check out this new track by Fred Knuxx (voted in top 51 of unsigned artist by Vibe Magazine) called "Let's Talk About It". It's a cool track but he definitely could have used a little bit more creativity. Out of 10 stars, I give this joint a 6, for a little above average but nothing spectacular here. What do you think?

"Fitted in Hip Hop" by The Beast
Posted at 12/27/2007 07:33:00 PM
It seems time that we pay homage to a staple that has grown to become symbolic of what Hip-Hop culture is all about. Whether if you rock an LA, A’s or NY on the front above the bill, the fitted cap is an accessory in fashion and an important instrument in our culture. It’s nothing like putting on a fresh new fitted and feeling good. For most people, it’s not unusual buying a new fitted every other week and having a collection just to match the colors of your sneakers and shirts. It’s just the way it is. For example, you could be decked out with Jordan’s, new jeans, a North Face jacket and a hoody, but it wouldn’t be complete without the fitted.I wanted to dig deeper to know where the fitted came from, but to get to the origins of the fitted, we must first know the history of the baseball cap in general. According to Wikipedia, the first baseball cap was created in 1860 by the Brooklyn Excelsior’s. The Excelsior’s where 1 of 3 teams that existed before the Dodgers, and dominated baseball in Brooklyn. These teams also helped to make baseball grow commercially during that period in time. So out of their style and invention… the “Brooklyn style” cap gave pace to a new trend. But it wasn’t until the ‘1940s, “that latex rubber became the stiffening material inside the hat and the modern baseball cap was born.”
Fast forwarding to the ‘90s, we saw a lot of hat companies come through from Starter to Logo 7, but none of those companies took it to the level that New Era has taken it to. New Era has been holding it down for several years now and they just seem to have an endless supply of styles. The Buffalo, NY based company which is the maker of the beloved 59Fifty hat, has held the crown emphatically with precision. The company was founded in 1920 and the people running New Era know that they are very much apart of Hip-Hop. You can see it in their commercials and advertisements. Many rap artists employ the hat maker to make special hats, not typically carried by the hat giant, to be sold or used for special promotions. One such artist is Cam’ron. His Dipset fitted was a hot item a couple of summers ago in NYC. Since Cam’ron… a lot more people have been trying to get special makes. Clothing designer and apparel companies like Nike, Reebok and Rocawear share an identity in this hat circle too, but the boom of “up and coming” hats companies is real. The Gary Jones Design Corp. is among the leaders in this category. Straight out of Kings County Brooklyn, Gary Jones represents in a celebratory way for his home state by enlisting one of his popular fitted hat styles for New York State. Scaled down and embroidered to resemble the state of NY, it’s pretty hot and right on time.
Before New Era, I’m sure it wasn’t intentional for the caps worn by Major Leaguers to become a Hip-Hop phenomenon. Fitted caps are still relatively new as fashion items. In Hip-Hop, Kangol ran the show, but that was in the ‘70s and ’80s. The Kangol went out with the legend’s that wore them. The new stars behind them brought in a new style. I can remember NWA wearing them when they were still together in the ‘80s and A Tribe Called Quest sporting them in the “Check the Rhyme” video when they where on the roof top exchanging rhyme play, but I don’t think the fitted started getting real play until LL started rocking’em. Even then, the fitted was still mute, but when Jay-Z rocked a Yankee’s fitted cap in his premier video for “Do It Again (Put Ya Hands Up)” back in 1999, the shit took off. My man said “With that new blue Yankee on… who but me.” Thanks Jay-Z for being an inspiration. After this, the surge of the fitted was on and the rest is history. Places like ATL, Chicago and Seattle got on quick and thanks to retailers like Foot Locker, Lid’s and local shops in the hood… the fitted hat army bound together by Hip-Hop rose.
So now I’m pouring a lil’ liquor for a true pioneer. Rest in peace Kangol and the Gerri Curls you covered. You’ll always be a legend.

I Hate Mixtapes But...
Posted at 12/27/2007 12:19:00 PMI have to say, my two favorite rappers right now are Stat Quo from the A, and the West Coast's own Bishop Lamont. Bishop hit em hard this year with three dope mixtapes: "N***er Noize," "CalTroit," and this one... "PopeMobile." Without question, Aftermath Entertainment is coming hard in 08. If you aren't up on dude, check out Bishop's Myspace for more info and FREE downloads... He's saying what needs to be said. Some of my favorites from this one are "Music Shit" and "Anyway." Open your ears and your mind will follow...

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOMESlow Day in Hip Hop
Posted at 12/26/2007 10:43:00 PM

Flo's on his way out... Destro is back in da building tomorrow. It's been my pleasure to steer the ship this weekend but I gotta fall back. Hopefully I got some of you thinking a little bit. Hopefully you kept reading it here! Get at me on Myspace anytime. I'd give out my email but the last time y'all didn't know how to act... HAHA. Thanks for the opportunity. I leave you with some of my favorite bangers from 07, some definite MUST HAVES if you love this music. I'm a well-rounded head so check it out...
Scarface "MADE": I don't have to tell you why, do I? Seriously?? Some artists you just can buy blindly. You know it's good product. And if you don't have "The Fix" you just need to stop what you're doing, leave work and go pick it up. Or void your company's "No iTunes" rule and download it... Legally you filthy animals!

Beanie Sigel "The Solution": Beanie, Face and Hov are supposedly putting together a group and an album... I can barely contain myself at the thought! In the meantime, Mack suppresses my appetite with this solid effort. I'm still partial to "The Truth" but this gets rotation...
