MTV Introduces YoMomma.TV and ShortCircuitz.MTV.com

Posted at

MTV: Music Television today introduced two new user-generated destinations – YoMomma.TV and ShortCircuitz.MTV.com – where viewers can upload videos of themselves dishing out their best Yo Momma jokes or starring in their own parodies of anything and everything, inspired by those they have seen on the Nick Cannon created sketch comedy show, Short Circuitz. The best user-generated videos will make their way into upcoming episodes of both series on-air. The new season of “Yo Momma” will premiere on MTV, June 11th airing Mon.- Fri. at 6:30pm ET/PT, and the new and improved “Short Circuitz” will hit the air Thursday nights starting June 7th at 10:30pm ET/PT, following the new season of “Wild N’ Out” at 10pm ET/PT.

With YoMomma.tv and ShortCircuitz.MTV.com, we’re giving our viewers a chance to see themselves on-air and commune with other fans who share a passion for dissin’ others or creating parodies of the most seminal moments in pop culture today,” said Brian Graden, President of Entertainment for MTV Networks’ Music Group. “This parallel online and on-air experience reflects our unique ability to use the combined power of our TV brand and digital assets to create one unified experience that ultimately drives deeper engagement with the MTV brand and its franchises.”

The new Yo Momma and Short Circuitz sites come on the heels of the recently announced Real World Casting site (www.RealWorldCasting.com). Since May 2, almost 16,000 viewers have submitted themselves to vie for a coveted spot as a house member in an upcoming season of “The Real World.” UGC was also at the heart of last weekend’s “2007 MTV Movie Awards.” MTV, in conjunction with Yahoo! Movies and Mark Burnett Productions, crowned Andy Signore from Ambler, Pennsylvania as the first-ever UGCBest Movie Spoof” category winner. More than 400 full-length, intricate movie spoofs were submitted by viewers spoofing a variety of dramas and comedies with more than 2 million people viewing the spoofs online and choosing Signore’s “United 300” as the best.

YoMomma.TV
At YoMomma.tv, viewers can create their own personal profiles, or enter the famed “Battle Ring,” instantly squaring off with others to deliver the best Yo Momma jokes. The winning jokes – as determined by the community – will be incorporated into forthcoming episodes of ‘Yo Momma.’

Though YoMomma.tv is designed to offer the largest catalog of Yo Momma jokes online, an innovative viral application will let viewers share their best – or harshest – repertoires with others. Viewers can superimpose their headshot on top of a virtual jokester, speak all that’s on their mind, and then email their creation to friends, embed it on their own blogs or Web sites, or let it just live on their computer.

The new season of ‘Yo Momma,’ takes its game to Atlanta this season, combing neighborhoods for the most original and skilled clowners who rumble, street-corner style, in each hood. To jack up the stakes this season, celebrity guests – including the Ying Yang Twins, Bow Wow and Jermaine Dupri – will make special appearances and help decide the weekly victors.

Short Circuitz
Short Circuitz, the ultimate TV parody destination show, extends its reach online with the introduction of ShortCircuitz.MTV.com. Every week, Nick Cannon and the show’s producers will select user-generated submissions and feature them on-air. In addition to national exposure alongside today’s hottest sketch players, featured viewers take home a cool thousand dollars to help them get started on their next project.

Featuring a hilarious, rapid-fire collection of fake TV shows, phony news reports, off-the-wall commercial spoofs, and parodies of anything and everything else on TV, “Short Circuitz” is sketch comedy for and by the next generation of comedy fans. The brainchild of Nick Cannon, each episode of “Short Circuitz” features user generated TV parody sketches posted on shortcircuitz.mtv.com and selected by Nick and his producers. Just as YoMomma.tv will catalog the world’s best Yo Momma jokes, ShortCircuitz.MTV.com will become the ultimate collection of online parodies, and will feature every Nick Cannon parody that ever aired.

"DJ Khaled: Truly Taking Over" Exclusive Interview with PinkToe

Posted at

The other day, specifically May 31 to be exact, I had an encounter with Miami’s finest, DJ Khaled, and we had a nice conversation/interview. Being that DJ Khaled is a man with many accomplishments under his belt such as having one of the hottest collaborations in music out on radio airwaves now, one would think he would come off with a stereotypical celebrity attitude, but instead, I was uplifted with his energy and positive attitude.

Born Khaled Khaled in New Orleans, LA, DJ Khaled (as we all know him now) always conveyed he always had a passion for music. He mentioned that his career began as on air personality at his college radio station. He later went on to eventually land a gig with an underground radio station in Miami. As time progressed, so did his career. Khaled got his dream job by landing the position of an on air/ DJ for Miami’s number hip-hop station WEDR 99 Jamz, for which he is currently hosting from 6 to 11 pm on the weeknights.

You think that position at WEDR would satisfy Khaled? Nope. He soon began networking for which he merged into the production side producing hits for various artists, the culmination of which led to the 2006 release of his debut album called Listen, that featured popular tracks such as “Holla at Me Baby”, and “Grammy Family”. Now Khaled is planning to release his sophomore album, “We the Best” which will be in stores June 12 and will feature tracks such as “We Taking Over” and “Brown Paper Bag”.

As we continued thru our conversation, he mentioned, “When I made all these records, especially ‘We Taking Over’ after I got done, I was like ‘Wow!” This is so big to have all these artists on there and to get all that love, so I got to give thanks to God”. Later he went on to explain the process of creating the second album. “Its not like artists give me a song and say here you go for your album. I work with other producers and collaborate with them [to create concepts and beats of songs] and then go to the artist and explain what I’m looking for”. He later went on to mention that in addition to releasing this second EP, he will be starting his own record label called We the Best.

In closing, I must admit that DJ Khaled was very inspirational in his outlook. He claimed that " God loves everyone", and that, ”We the Best” which goes for everyone not just him. He advised , “…Work hard and go after my dreams. Wake up and look at the sky and really see how beautiful the day is.” Now every morning, I wake up different instead of complaining about getting those extra five minutes in be.... I say to myself ‘We the Best’.

Hot Interview!: BadNews politics with Sha Money XL

Posted at

As you should already know, BadNews, is on the case with this special feature. Yesterday (6.6.07), BN, had the gracious opportunity to holla at G-unit Producer Extraordinaire and Loud.com affiliate, Sha Money XL. Hell naw! That's right, Sha Money XL. Well, who is Sha Money...well, you'll find out more about him in the interview. But know this fact about him. He is responsible for single handily introducing 50 cent (back in the day) to Eminem by of delivery of 50's independent release"Guess Who's Back To Me" to Em. And you know...the rest is history, but that's a whole other discussion for later. Anyway, peep this interview with Sha Money XL and BadNews...We think you'll really like it...

BadNews: So what’s the deal?

SMXL: I’m good. How you doing Badnews?

BadNews: I’m good.

SMXL: Good to hear that.

Badnews: Thanks. So what’s a normal day for super producer Sha Money XL?

SMXL: Well, a normal day varies; I’m in Manhattan most of the time you know? I’m running between buildings in Manhattan. I’m sitting down with new artist and current artist, usually closing deals. I got to close a few deals today. I’ll be in the studio working on tracks or I’ll travel a lot nah mean? But mostly I work in the city.

BadNews: Okay you sound like a busy dude. What’s the thought process you go through when you’re in the studio? What I’m trying to say is how do you create a record?

SMXL: It’s all premeditated; usually I’ll already have the melody in my head already. I’ll skim through my samples, I’ll go through the drum beats, but usually I’ll always have the melody in my head before I go in the studio. For example, when I was in Toronto on the movie set for, “Get Rich Or Die Trying” and I had this beat in my head and I was humming it all day, like (hums a Mobb Deep beat) so I went to the trailer and grabbed a labtop, laid a track down, then grabbed the keyboard and dropped the melody to it. And 50 Cent walked in and asked, “ Who did this?” and he was feeling it, so he wrote the hook and we had the song, and put it on the “ Get Rich or Die Trying” soundtrack. then when I was on the road, I rented out Pharrell’s tour bus, I was with my big nigga Kia and I had a melody in my head like (he hums the melody to Mobb Deep’s first single, Put 'Em in their place, off their 7th album “Blood Money”) and hit the keyboard and laid the track down, and then shot it over to Havoc and that’s how they got their single. But like I said I always have the melody in my head then I’ll attack the studio and go to work.

BadNews: Ah, that’s crazy (laughs). So you were in the streets awhile back hustling and doing your thing. Then you ended going to NYU right?

SMXL: Yeah…

BadNews: So what made you decide that the streets weren’t for you anymore and take the path to college?

SMXL: Well I was in the streets crazy selling drugs and trying to eat. I took trips upstate (New York) trying to sell drugs, thinking I was going to be a big drug dealer, and I got arrested. That was the first time I was arrested yo, and I went straight to prison. And it was Upstate prison; I was locked up in Albany for six months. I didn’t even get a slap on the wrist. You know how most niggas get a slap on the wrist their first time they get arrested? I didn’t get that. I went straight to prison. So when I came home I was like, "This shit ain't for me". So I went straight to the studio after I came home, worked on a bunch of songs with 50 to get involved with the mix tapes and then I just went to college.

BadNews: Ok, well you definitely made the right choice for real.

SMXL: Thank you

BadNews: You faced some hard times in 2000, how did music help you through those troubles?

SMXL: you mean when 50 got shot?

BadNews: Yeah…

SMXL: Well music is very powerful thing. 50 makes powerful music. He has a bigger influence you know? I mean niggas tried to kill him over it. It was real crazy. I was calling his grandma...I still remember the number. But when I first heard he got shot, I was upstate at the house. I had a job and was making good money. But I heard he got shot over the radio, and I went straight to Jamaica hospital, with my son in my arm just to let him know I was there for him. That I was loyal. But when 50 got out the hospital, I just told him look, come Upstate, get right, and work on some music. So he came up to the crib with his goons, they checked it out. And we went to work for like a year and a half.

BadNews: Well, obviously...we all know what happened after that. Hard work pays off.
Speaking on hard work, you posted a few tracks on Loud.com. Do you ever have second thoughts on posting the beats?

SMXL: Of course. I have second thoughts when I post a beat, but I do this to help the hood out. I do this to give back. I don’t make any profit off this. I just post the track and see what they can do with it.

BadNews: So what turned you on to getting involved with Loud.com?

SMXL: The fact that it’s innovative. I’m reaching out to an audience that can’t reach me. To give them an opportunity to get more involved with the people and put their music in hands of people who they can’t reach and to show off their talents. It’s a good sight, but this summer I’m going to post more tracks on there. I’m about to go hard and post nothing but tracks. I got some serious ammo, I’m going to give it my all. (Laughs)

BadNews: Ha (laughs) I feel you. So you were a musical direction supervisor on the motion picture "Get Rich or Die Trying". What’s the difference between producing and scoring a motion picture?

SMXL: Emotion. You got to have a song that fits a scene. Like for a sad scene, you got to have the strings. In an intense scene like when 50 was recuperating, you got to have certain sounds to capture the emotion. And like when Caesar’s rival was on stage or had a song, I have to make a whack beat for him. I had to make a hot, whack beat. He portrayed a Ja Rule image, so he had to be whack as hell. So I had to make a hot whack beat for him. But I had to find the sounds to fit the emotion. We were in the studio a long time, but we had to make it right.

BadNews: So how long did it take to score the movie?

SMXL: Two months in and out.

BadNews: So you held a producers conference in Arizona, how’d that go down?

SMXL: Ah man that was crazy. It was like 500 producers that attended and I put a lot of work into it. I wanted to give back and help them out. When Lloyd Banks was on tour, I sent him like 100 beats from the conference, and he listened to every last one of them. But the conference was to give them knowledge on not just how to produce, but the legal shit to get their tracks in producers’ hands. Man I spent like 100 grand on that shit, I fed them, I paid for producers to come down and talk to them, I had Premo there, Swizz was suppose to be there but he couldn’t make it because he was promoting his record, "Its Me Bitches" so I spent 6 grand for a video confe
