Exclusive Interview w.Numskullz of the Luniz & Flo Dirt - "10 Shots With Flo Dirt"

Posted at

What's up everybody, our writer extraordinaire, Flo Dirt, has really been on the grind. Yesterday (3/23/07), he had the cool opportunity to interview yet another hip hop legend. It was NumSkull who was 1/2 of the Oakland-based duo, The Luniz (classic EP-Operation Stackola, "I Got 5 On It"). Well, just to give you a head's up, he's got a new solo album coming out this season called "It's NumWorld" due in stores on 5/29/07. Just so you know where his head's at right now, check out what he had to say to Flo Diggy in the latest installment of "10 shots from Flo Dirt".....

Flo Dirt: What’s goin’ on, Num??

NumSkull: I’m good man. What’s up?

Flo Dirt: I gotta tell you that I loved that “Lunatik Muzik” and always thought it was a classic album, me being from the Bay and all.

NumSkull: You know what? That was my favorite Luniz album too. Thanks, man.

Flo Dirt: So, what’s been happenin’ with you?

NumSkull: Working on my solo album on my label, Ball or Fall. After that, working on the Caliban album and working with my artists Bo Strangles and Ka$h Flow.

Flo Dirt: Cool, so let’s get down to business. I got 10 questions for you… #1. Obama or Clinton in ’08?

NumSkull: Neither… (laughing) I don’t care cuz it don’t matter!

Flo Dirt: What’s really going on in the Town (Oakland) lately?

NumSkull: Same ol’ - same ol’ shit, man. Getting money on the hustle…

Flo Dirt: Whose cd would you buy without listening to one song just on the strength of that artist being who they are?

NumSkull: Michael Jackson!

Flo Dirt: Guilty pleasure, music-wise? Not hip hop or R&B but something different…

NumSkull: I don’t even listen to hip hop really. I’m an old school cat, man. I like the Earth, Wind and Fires, the Frankie Beverlys. Man, I like The Doors! All different types of music.
Flo Dirt: What, if anything, is there to gain from beef on wax?

NumSkull: Nope, nothing at all. Nothing at all.

Flo Dirt: What did, or do the Luniz represent to you?

NumSkull: The Luniz represented the comedy side of Oakland with the struggle. We gave the comedy but also included the struggle along with it.

Flo Dirt: A follow up would be, what’s up with Dru Down?

NumSkull: Oh, man Dru Down is in studio working on his album!

Flo Dirt: Top 5, Dead or Alive…

NumSkull: Aww man… I like so many for different reasons… I can’t even…

Flo Dirt: OK, let’s tweak it and just say some of your favorites.

NumSkull: My favorites? OK. Cube is definitely one of my favorites. Keak (the sneak). Eminem for sure. Pac.

Flo Dirt: Of Course.

NumSkull: And me! Shit!

Flo Dirt: Yeah, no doubt!

Flo Dirt: You on Myspace at all?

NumSkull: Yeah.

Flo Dirt: When was the last time you were on someone’s Myspace page and said “I gotta sign this cat” or “work with this dude”?

NumSkull: Never… (we both laugh) NEVER.

Flo Dirt: On the new album, what is your strategy to reach the widest hip hop market?

NumSkull: No strategy really. I just made music that I would buy. That’s it.

Flo Dirt: What do you miss most about 2Pac?

NumSkull: His words…

Flo Dirt: All right, Num. Those were my 10. You have anything for us? Any last words for hiphopruckus.com

NumSkull: Yeah, man. May, the album drops. I hope people buy it to buy it to hear me, not to hear what I have to say about Yuk.

Flo Dirt: Yo, I read in your bio that Yuk might be on your new album. That’s true?

NumSkull: Oh yeah. Me and Yuk are cool. He’ll be on there and we also got a new Luniz album coming after that.

Flo Dirt: Thanks a lot Num. I’m glad I got to talk to you and sorry for missing the call, man.

NumSkull: No problem. Thanks a lot.

"10 Shots From Flo Dirt" Exclusive Interview w.Lil Flip

Posted at

Today (3/23/07), one of our staff writers, Flo Dirt, had the opportunity to sit down with H-town's own Lil Flip in an exclusive interview in which he basically chopped up some game and such. We are proud to announce that this will be the first installment of Flo's new project called "10 Shots from Flo Dirt" in which he asks the questions that those other reporters won't...so you don't know what to expect. Peep the technique and enjoy.....

Flo Dirt: What's poppin', Flipperachi?? What's going on with you?

Lil Flip: Grindin' all the time, man. What's happenin'?

Flo Dirt: I'm gonna keep this short and sweet, man. I got 10 questions for you and I'll let you get back to your busy schedule.

Lil Flip: Go for it man.

Flo Dirt: All right then. Obama or Clinton in '08?

Lil Flip: Oh man. You know I gotta go with the... Well, I don't want to be biased or sexist...Well, I'm a Democrat so that's what's up!

Flo Dirt: What does the XM/Sirius merger mean to Clover G Radio?

Lil Flip: Nothing, really. I mean, it's not effecting me. I don't have no problem with my money. They wanna give me half or shit, 10% then come on! I just renewed my contract. If they wanna slide me some more money, I'm cool with that.

Flo Dirt: Name a person whose cd you'd buy without listening to one song? Just on the strength of that artist being that artist.

Lil Flip: Devin the Dude. No question.

Flo Dirt: Yeah, I'm waitin' on that album too.

Lil Flip: Fo sho.

Flo Dirt: Everybody has a guilty pleasure music-wise? Mine is New Edition, man. Who do you listen to that maybe you wouldn't normally tell someone about?

Lil Flip: What's the name of that song they play on MTV? That one where he sings..."You're beautiful."... Yeah, James Blunt. That's my shit!

Flo Dirt: I know that you've dealt with this directly and it's been awhile, but what, if anything, is there to gain from beef on wax?

Lil Flip: Beefin' on wax? Man, popularity. Some people think they gain popularity or notoriety but what happens is you put others in danger. It's not worth it in the end.

Flo Dirt: All right. There are rumors circulating of a 23-minute version of "3,2,1 Go." Where's it at? When are we gonna get it?

Lil Flip: (laughs) Yeah, I gotta remix comin'. Don't even worry about that. It's gonna be my nuke' I'ma drop that remix! I'ma get that album out and then drop the bomb on 'em. Time's tickin'

Flo Dirt: I gotta ask every emcee I speak with 'Top 5 -Dead or Alive'

Lil Flip: 2pac, Biggie, Big L, Jay-Z...Ummm. One more slot, huh? I gotta say Pun. Man, he broke it down so hard lyrically. He was a murderer with it! I'm tellin' you.

Flo Dirt: When was the last time you were on someone's Myspace page and said "I gotta sign this cat" or "I gotta work with this dude"?

Lil Flip: Man, that's how I found my camera guy. He hit me on Myspace. He sent me a message telling me what equipment he has and how flexible he was. I hooked up with him. I'm always on there chatting with people though. All the time. As a matter of fact, I gotta chat coming up' (asks assistant in the background) "What time is the chat?" Pushed back til tomorrow? Ok. Yeah, I'm always on there, man.

Flo Dirt: On the new album, what is your strategy to reach the widest hip hop market?

Lil Flip: Did you say "whitest?" (laughs)

Flo Dirt: Naw, man. Not like Eminem whitest, but widest.

Lil Flip: Oh ok, cool. Man, YouTube, Mixtapes. I got my own liquor, my own soda. I got my XM show every Thursday on 66 Raw. We grindin'! Every other day I post new videos on YouTube and Myspace so fans can see my life. I'm telling you every other day. I'm giving them ME.

Flo Dirt: All right, Flip. Last question. What do you miss most about DJ Screw?

Lil Flip: That's funny cuz I'm reading this book right now about him. It's this Houston based magazine. Yeah. Screw was the type of dude to give you the last dollar in his pocket. And you just couldn't get mad at him. You know how sometimes you just get mad at people? You could never get mad at Screw. He was just a good dude.

Flo Dirt: All right, Flip. I'm not gonna keep you. I know your time is precious and I appreciate you taking time out for me. Any last words?

Lil Flip: Yeah man. Thanks for the interview. Anytime you need to talk to me just holla at me or my people. I don't have an album coming out or anything. Just hit me up.

Flo Dirt: All right then. I'll catch you on that Myspace!

Lil Flip: All right.

Flo Dirt: Thanks, Flip.

Lil Flip: No problem. Thanks homie.
