MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOME"Cam'Ron Giles 1976-2007" by BadNews
Posted at 2/09/2007 07:40:00 PM
Wow. Was it only me when my spidey sense went off and I had butterflies in my stomach when I wondered why 50 was so calm on the phone when Cam'ron started yelling at him over the phone on radio? Why was Curtis so calm? I think I know why now. He was gathering his thoughts... getting his lyrics together, planning the funeral for Cam'ron Giles career. Check out the video for 50 cent's diss record, "Funeral Music", here or on his myspace page.
I really don't wanna get into it because you gotta see it for yourself but lets just say 50 fired a cannon when there was a depiction of a lamborghini getting shot. Some might not like like him, more might hate him, but when it comes to drama or beef, 50 is the one you do not want to battle with. And that's mainly because he doesn't care, he speaks his mind and has a voice that can be heard, and that's far more dangerous than yelling over the phone. This is our first offical beef of the year and it has started out with 50 not throwing a jab, but a freaking haymaker! Cam'ron is very lyrical and can hold his own with Jay, but is 50 going to help this man out with this beef, or help his career in a coffin? Stay tuned world...."DDDDDDDDAMN!!"

Rawkus Records is Looking For Unsigned Artists for "Rawkus 50"
Posted at 2/09/2007 03:01:00 PM
Rawkus Records has a cherished and indelible place in the hip-hop history books, as it was the preeminent label of hip-hop’s glory age. More then a label, the name became a motto for what was right with hip-hop, and over the course of its storied history, became the model for all independent labels that followed in its wake. Now, Rawkus is back, and in doing so ushers in its rebirth with the same ideology it previously used to become a powerhouse - delivering quality music! The “RAWKUS 50” is the 50 Next important hip hop artists! As one of Hiphop’s most trusted brands, Rawkus Records will select 50 members ideally suited to represent our logo. The “RAWKUS 50” will receive the consistent marketing efforts of the founders of Rawkus Records. First, Rawkus Records will consolidate the cumulative fan-bases in the interests of the cooperative. Then, Rawkus will market the “RAWKUS 50” as a whole, while maintaining the essential one-on-one focus on individual artist development.
Jarret Myer and Brian Brater, co-founders of Rawkus Records are eager to explore all the opportunities and new artists that will arise with “Rawkus 50” as Jarret comments “This is such a great opportunity for both artist and label. There are so many talented artists with substance and a do it yourself spirit that deserve a larger promotional outlet.” Likewise, Brian asserts “with the Rawkus 50, Rawkus will provide unprecedented opportunities for Independent artists.” Further, Slop Funk Dust, content manager of the “RAWKUS 50” laments “When have you ever heard of a respectable record label accepting unsolicited material from the general public? I could send my demo to Def Jam, but it's just gonna end up on someone’s floor. The Rawkus guys are loading up their IPOD’s and listening to submissions like mad men. This is the perfect opportunity for that one guy, that's been recording albums in his basement and posting his videos on youtube. It is also perfect for artists that are already established and have followings and are just interested and hungry. For those established artists this can be a way better outlet than mixtapes.”
Artists chosen for one of the coveted 50 spots MUST have developed Myspace communities and sufficient Youtube (or equivalent) links.
In addition to the “Rawkus 50’s” comprehensive internet marketing strategy, Rawkus Records will provide the “Rawkus 50” with the following cooperative marketing opportunities:
**National Full Page Print Campaigns with trusted Hiphop Magazines
**National Internet marketing and promotion
**Sponsored NY and LA Showcases for the “Rawkus 50” to perform
**Blog and Podcast hosting, marketing and promotion
Artist Creative Requirement:
Non Prolific artists need not apply. If you cannot consistently create and churn out dope music, the “Rawkus 50” is not for you! Artists must submit and deliver a minimum of 10 (ten) mastered tracks for one album. Rawkus Records will promote and market the album.
Artists will remain fully-independent and be free to sign with any label of their choosing, or Rawkus Records if we approach you and you accept.

music@rawkus.com to the attention of Slopfunkdust
Please be sure to put the “Rawkus 50” as the subject; if your e-mail submission is over 10MEGS, please use Yousendit http://www.yousendit.com to upload your zipfile entry.

Pitbull Searches for next urban talent
Posted at 2/09/2007 12:07:00 PM
Jose Cuervo, the world's largest Tequila company, has partnered with urban superstar Pitbull, Hip Hop mogul Chingo Bling and rising talent Malverde to announce the 2nd annual talent search for "La Nueva Generaci?n", the next generation of Latino artists in urban music. Known as Cuervot?n, the contest will serve as a platform for exposure to unsigned artists, ensuring the longevity of Latinos in the music industry in partnership with, BMI,Gibson, Def Jam's Roc La Familia and Atlantic Records. Jose Cuervo is also partnering with LIFEbeat, The Music Industry Fights AIDS charity organization, which is dedicated to reaching America's next generation with the message of HIV/AIDS prevention.
Beginning in January, Cuervot?n will tour the country searching for the hottest up-and-coming talent. Contestants from across the nation will have the opportunity to submit their demos for review, compete for a major record deal with Def Jam's Roc La Familia and be featured on Estudio 201's Volume 3 CD. In addition, finalists will share the stage with some of the hottest stars in urban music and tour with Cuervot?n in 2008. Semi- Finals will be held in New York, Chicago, Miami, Phoenix and Houston. The final concert event will take place in Chicago in May, 2007.
"As someone who grew up with obstacles to overcome, I know what it's like to get a break and work tirelessly to achieve your dreams," said Pitbull. "This competition provides an opportunity for success to some very talented people who otherwise may never have had the chance. Cuervot?n is all about shining a light on Latino musicians and giving them a shot."
Last year, Cuervot?n was led by Chingo Bling, DJ Tony Touch with support of record labels Machete Music and Wu-Tang Latino. The campaign reached over 30,000 consumers across five cities in 12 weeks, while promoting the message of "Drink Responsibly, Play Safe" by partnering with LIFEbeat.
The final concert took place in Times Square's Nokia Theater in New York City with performances by Pitbull, N.O.R.E., Chingo Bling and many more.
