Supreme needs 50 Cent

Posted at

Remember alleged crime boss, Kenneth "Supreme" McGriff. He's presently on trial for ordering the deaths of two rival, Queens rappers (Eric Smith & Troy Singleton). In the proceedings, The prosecution is seeking the death penalty. There's a new development though. According to SOHH, he (McGriff) is requesting testimony from over "fifty" witnesses to "help paint a more business-like side of McGriff...and to prove money from his ventures was gainfully earned." Get this though, of the witnesses he's callin' on, 50 Cent is one of them. Hmmm...very interesting since it was 50 that believed for years that "Supreme" had ordered the hit which left him with the "famous" gun wounds he has today. However, SOHH goes on to state that in a book published in 2006 called Queens Reigns Supreme, 50 admits that it was a notorious stickup artists named Darryl "Homo" Baum that shot him and that basically, the shooting was not the "beef" related hit, as the media portrays its, "Supreme" orchastrated. Juicy stuff...watch out for more on this developing story!!

Lil' Wayne Speaks on Drama Fiasco

Posted at

In an extensive article by VH1, Lil Wayne sat down and pretty much discussed how he felt about the recent DJ Drama & Cannon arrests as well as what he thought about the state of mixtapes in general. Basically, his stance for pro-law, meaning that he was for cracking down on illegal mixtapes distribution.

He tells VH1,"You gotta do it right. It's gonna be a message. [The authorities] ain't playing. They gonna make an example. They gonna straighten the game out. A lot of companies take a fall with those mixtapes. N---as be caking up off them mixtapes. The artists can drop his album — and everybody knows that hip-hop [album sales are in] decline — nobody ain't gonna buy the album, and everybody gets the mixtapes off of the Internet or whatever way they get it. The artists ain't caking, but the n---a you made the mixtape with is caking up. Thank God I ain't got that problem, but I know a lot of people who do."

Rebuttal: Sounds sort of hypocritical coming from Lil Wayne, since he has been featured in several mixtapes for which I think have catapulated his career, so to speak. But in a sense I do agree with him that there are also those DJ out there that use his material without his permission and from that aspect of the game, the authorities should crack down. But what about the other side of the coin...what does that do to that unsigned artists that's trying to make a new for himself on the street do now? Does he keep getting rejected by these major record labels? If it wasn't for the mixtape circuit several MCs like Papoose, Yo Gotti, Slim Thug, etc...would have never been discovered or be at the status there are at. Hmm!! To me, The recent crackdown on DJ Drama and Cannon is just another way for these record labels "force the hand" and make it tougher for the "Little Man" , that being MCs and DJs, to make it independently in this Hip Hop Game!! You do the math!

Gangsta Rap: The Glockumentary - Funny Film!

Posted at

Gangsta Rap: The Glockumentary will have its theatrical release Friday, March 2 on nearly two dozen screens in the L.A. area. The feature-length comedy is independently released by Ill Ville Films/Big Business.

Written and directed by Damon "Coke" Daniels, who co-wrote My Baby's Daddy with Eddie Griffin for Miramax, Gangsta Rap: The Glockumentary owes its street cred to Daniels' extensive turn in the world of hip hop, during which his group Madkap (Loud Records) toured with the likes of Notorious B.I.G, The Pharcyde, Twista, Common, The Alkaholics and the Wu Tang Clan.

Daniels also served as producer, alongside Craig Chapman, Chris Dreyer and Paul Stewart, who also handled the film's music supervision. Stewart, who founded PMP, a promotions company associated with Island/Def Jam and Loud Records, has also served as music supervisor for the Oscar-winning Hustle & Flow and Four Brothers, starring Mark Wahlberg and Terrence Howard, as well as the Barbershop franchise. Myles Nestel, who was founding partner of Cobalt Media Group, which financed the Oscar-nominated House of Sand and Fog, Swimfan and Steven Spielberg's Band of Brothers, and Mike Medlock, are executive producers.

Shot in mockumentary style, with Daniels in the role as filmmaker, Gangsta Rap follows the flickering fortunes of Gangsta Rap, "the hardest group you've never heard of," a trio of old school, West Coast rappers: Murder Mike, Du Rag and DJ Ballistics. Despite run-ins with the law, shady dealings, numerous child custody cases, and a serious slide into irrelevance with the public, these self-proclaimed godfathers of gangsta rap are hell-bent on staging a comeback.

With fresh tracks such as "My Mamma's A Bitch" and "In My House Shoes," Gangsta Rap is angling to re-establish their supremacy. The group originally burst on the scene in the mid-eighties, virtually ruling the West Coast underground into the next decade. Following a slew of setbacks and some vicious in-fighting, the O.G.s put the past behind them to take one more stab at success.

The film features an ensemble cast of both real-life rappers and stand-up comedians, including Howie Bell (P. Diddy Presents...The Bad Boys of Comedy; Jamie Foxx's Laffapalooza), Gerald Johnson (aka, Slink Capone The Cutaluff, produced by Too Short), Schuylar Harvey, Leslie (aka Leslie Jones; HBO's Def Comedy Jam; Girlfriends; National Security) Tomy'a Bowden (The Steve Harvey Show; Dahmer), Clifton Powell (Ray; Woman, Thou Art Loosed) and Sam Maccarone, director of the recently released National Lampoon's TV: The Movie and also features cameos by rappers Too $hort and GLC.

The soundtrack from the film will be available on Delicious Vinyl.

Is Jay-Z abusing Beyonce?

Posted at

You know we want to always give you, the viewers, something that probably hasn't been read. Back on 1/10/07, A disturbing story was posted by well-known African-American news site, MediaTakeOut. In the story, it goes into depth regarding an emailed letter that an assistant (unnamed) to Beyonce had submitted to them discussing what she (Beyonce's assistant) believed to be apparent signs of abuse based on some of Jay's recent behavior towards Beyonce. She writes,"Seems that for a while he's had a problem with keeping his hands to himself. Now I've never seen him just flat out strike Bee (Beyonce), but too many times have I seem him shove and push her....". Later she writes in the article,"I've been [Beyonce's assistant] and friend for a while now and I've always wanted to say something but I never felt it was my place. He treats Beyonce like she's an object and not a person. The [EXPLETIVE] should be happy that a beautiful woman finally wants and loves his ugly [EXPLETIVE] for more than just what's in his pockets." I guess everything may not be as it seems with the two. Stay tuned for more on this story!

Diddy & Jay Z, Jacob Needs You

Posted at

Jacob the "Hip Hop" Jeweler (Juwelier Yakov) as I like to call him, is in serious trouble with the law. Just so everyone is up-to date, he has been charged with conspiring to launder over $270 million dollars in "dirty" money generated by Atlanta-Drug Conglomerate, BMF, by giving away jewelery in exchange for cash without generating receipts. According to SOHH, He has recently called on for testimony from hip hop moguls Diddy & Jay Z to act as character witnesses in his defense to prove that, as his lawyer Benjamin Brafman states, "they themselves made substantial purchases in cash from him and all the money was handled properly".

Also, Jacob and his defense are lobbying to get the present trial location of Detroit, Michigan moved to New York since most of the witness reside there and because trying to coordinate testimony from witness is, as Mr. Brafman states, "...a logistic nightmare that is beyond comprehension" Stay Tuned!
