Tyson charged with DUI and possession

Posted at

For Mike Tyson it's déjà vu all over again. The ex-boxing champ was arrested ... again early Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence and possession of cocaine after police stopped him shortly after he left a Scottsdale nightclub.

Apparently Iron Mike was so snockered, he almost ran into a deputy sheriff's vehicle while leaving the club around 1:45 AM, said Sgt. Larry Hall of the Buckeye (AZ) Police Department.

"He showed signs of impairment and voluntarily submitted to field sobriety tests," said Hall, who was working in the area as part of a holiday DUI task force. Tyson, 40, was placed under arrest after "showing more signs of impairment" during the field sobriety tests.

TMZ.com reports that after he was stopped, Tyson admitted to cops that he had been using illegal drugs over the last few days. Cops say they found cocaine in his car and on his person.

Tyson was booked at the Maricopa County jail, isolated from other inmates for his own safety. Earlier this morning the fighter appeared before a judge and was advised he will be charged with one count of narcotic drug possession, a felony.

Tyson was later released without bail. He must check in with a pre-trial service officer today. Under the terms of the release, he will be forced to take drug and alcohol tests.

This isn't Tyson's first brush in the law in Arizona. In 2004, the embattled boxer was arrested and charged with suspicion of criminal damage after cops say he left a nightclub and jumped on the hood of a stranger's car, causing about $1400 in damage.

According to Sheriff Arpaio, Tyson has also been a guest at the jail talking to juvenile offenders about the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

"The irony is he did a great job with these kids - stay away from drugs, don't drink, stay out of trouble," the sheriff said.

Styles P Suffers Broken Leg In Road Rage Incident

Posted at

Rapper Styles P, of D-Block, was involved in a road rage incident on Saturday afternoon (December 23), resulting in the rapper suffering a broken leg.

According to WABC-TV in New York, the rapper (real name: David Styles), 32, was cut off by a truck on Saw Mill River Road, which angered him. He then returned the favor, resulting in both vehicles stopping. Styles then got out of his 2003 Mercedes-Benz, threw napkins at the truck's window after a verbal altercation and returned to his car. Upon returning, the truck rammed him.

Styles P's left leg was broken in the process. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment, and was later released.

The driver of the truck was 50-year-old John Henson, who was arrested and charged with second-degree assault.

Henson reportedly told police he was not aware he had cut off Styles' car and that he was feared "for his safety" when the rapper got back into his car after throwing the napkins. He is scheduled to appear in Town Court on January 2.

Timbaland Goes Solo, Recruits 50 & JT For New CD

Posted at

After being nominated for multiple Grammys this year for his work with pop acts Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado, Timbaland is finally ready to return as a solo artist and release a new album.

The as-yet-untitled disc is set for a tentative March release and will be the super-producer's first release since 2001's Under Construction Pt. II, a collaborative effort with his long time partner Magoo. Though not confirmed, it is believed that the lead single off the album will be the song "Give It To Me", which features both Timberlake and Furtado.

Straying away from a strictly hip-hop formula, Timbo is hoping to experiment and bring a new sound to the forefront with this latest effort.

"He ventures into the alternative world and the real pop world," said Timbaland protégé Nate "Danja" Hills in an interview with Billboard. "He has so many different sounds from hip-hop, to pop, to rock on this album. And he pulls every single one of them off perfectly." He continues, "His ear is more attuned to an international sound. Any type of music with a crazy melody, he is automatically attracted to. He knows how to transform those melodies to something urban. He knows how to put the oomph behind something pretty, or melodic and big. When you get the right vocals on it, it turns into something crazy international."

The highly anticipated disc is rumored to boast guest appearances from artists including Bjork, Missy Elliot, and G-Unit boss 50 Cent among others. Fans who plan on catching Justin Timberlake on his current tour may also be privileged to catch a sneak preview of Timbo's new material, as he is rumored to have his own section in the show according to Hills.

Michael Jordan Divorces Wife

Posted at

Basketball legend Michael Jordan has divorced his wife-of-17-years Juanita in a Chicago, Illinois court. In court documents filed at the Lake County Circuit Court yesterday (Dec. 29), the couple said, "Irreconcilable differences have caused an irretrievable breakdown of the marriage." They have lived separately since February. Juanita Jordan previously filed for divorce in January 2002, but changed her mind a month later and withdrew her petition, revealing the couple was attempting a reconciliation. However, yesterday's statement reads more efforts "would be impractical and not in the best interests of the family". Michael and Juanita have three children together - Jeffrey, 18, Marcus, 16, and Jasmine, 14. They married in 1989 after meeting at a Chicago restaurant.

"The Year in Review"..Yep, 2006 by BadNews

Posted at

Guess who's bizzack! What's good everyone, Ya boy Badnews is back from a crazy week of blizzards, Iverson showin up with Denver...and 4 wheel drive trucks gettin stuck in snow banks. Now I had a lot of time on my hands, and I was thinking to myself while thumbing through mags who had the best year in hip hop? Now there could be a plethora of nominees from 3-6 mafia winning a Oscar to the return of Jay-z and his reign of the Billboards, and then I of course had to think of the bad..from the flop of Lupe as far as record sales, to Jermaine Dupri exiting Virgin. Then as I was bundled up in ten layers of blankets as I started thinking of the comeback of Chingy, Nas's contraversial album name to Jim Jones' record of the year (at least in my book). Next week I will discuss the good the bad and the ugly of hip hop in 2006 so log on, read and feel free to argue or discuss if I'm right or not. We gotta bring back in '07..right, and that's the Badnews way..YA DIGGGG!

The Real "Rookie of the Year" for 2006

Posted at

Over the past decade and a half, Superstar has proven to be much more than your average mix-tape deejay. Stepping into the hip hop arena at the tender age of 12, under the tutelage of turntable greats Kid Capri, Ron G. and DJ Clue, it wasn’t long before Jay was labeled a mixing prodigy. His reputation consistently grew as he jumped at every opportunity to grace the 1’s and 2’s and show off his skills at parties and local events in and around his hometown of Jamaica, Queens.

Like many youth coming up in Queens in what was commonly known as the “Get or Get It” era, it didn’t take Jay long to realize that there were limited avenues which would take him out of the hood and lead him to a better place, those being basketball, beats or the hustle game. Fortunately for rap fans, Jay chose the former two options. As it turned out, Superstar Jay’s crossover was just as wicked as his cross fade. He perfected his street ball game and landed himself a full ride to Buffalo State College. Jay put his Technics on the shelf to focus on books and ball, put early in his junior year his passion summoned him back. Superstar Jay created the “Midnight Run Mixtape”, a number one rated radio show on 91.3 WBNY-Fm. News of Jay’s skills spread like wildfire throughout the campus and around Western New York like. Jay became a staple in the Upstate New York club scene and rocked parties from Buffalo and Niagara Falls to Rochester and beyond.

Once Jay realized that he could parlay his passion into a viable career, he set his sights on conquering the Big Apple. In 2001, Jay returned to NYC to dance with the big dogs.

With his raw talent and hustler’s ambition, Jay’s mixtapes attracted the attention and respect of true rap fans across the globe. Since his emergence in New York, Jay has displayed that his dedication and work ethic are the reason that he has solidified a well deserved spot as one of the hottest new deejays on the scene.

Superstar Jay has sold more than 50,000 units of his 85 mixtapes to date. Jay is the hottest up and coming powerhouse in the mixtape game right now. A large part of his appeal, is his ability assemble killer rosters (including those ever elusive unobtainable artists) and deliver quality product.

Being Crowned “Rookie of the Year” at the 2006 Justo Mixtape Awards, coupled with several recurring guest spots on national hip hop television shows like BET’s Rap City and MTV’s Direct Effect, Jay is proving that he is definitely a force to be reckoned with.

With limitless talents, DJ Superstar Jay is so much more than just a mixtape aficionado. He is a living example of turning a hobby into a commodity. Jay is not just a whiz inside the studio. With tireless energy and enthusiasm he can rock any crowd with ease. In 2000, he partnered with Oh Baby ENT. And Northside ENT. in a collaborative effort to bring rap back to its essence and assist up and upcoming recording artists like rapper/ actor Storm P (The Cookout, Flava Unit), Clap Cognac (BET’s 106 & Park champion) and Gangsta Lou (Smack DVD) in establishing solid careers in the music industry.

In the wide world of hip hop, there are tons of run of the mill mixtapes…and then there are Superstar Jay tapes. It is evident to anyone within earshot that he pours his soul into every effort. Widely known as “the hood’s favorite deejay”, Jay serves as the voice for the masses, who would otherwise go unheard. That’s how he keeps fans all over the world perched on the edges of their seats, eagerly anticipating the next dose of the grime, the grind and the glory that is DJ Superstar Jay.
