Kelis Featured In New Ford Edge Marketing Campaign
Posted at 12/22/2006 01:23:00 PM
Kelis has been tapped to be the face of an urban marketing campaign for the new 2007 Ford Edge. The singer has recorded new song about Ford's bold crossover vehicle that began airing in ads December 20."With a bold style that breaks the rules, Kelis is the perfect spokesperson for the Edge urban marketing campaign," said Jeri Ward, Ford Edge marketing manager. "Our target buyer can easily relate to Kelis' sharp and sophisticated style."
"I am an informed buyer who likes to shop around for what I like," said Kelis. "I prefer bold designs and that's what I see when I look at the Edge. I believe it was built to defy expectations and change people's perceptions, two concepts that have helped me define who I am."
On December 20, the Edge campaign featuring Kelis began with a creative radio spot featuring the song that Kelis created specifically for the campaign, titled "Push It To The Edge," which features the singer flowing over a heavy hip-hop beat with lyrics like, "So clean in my Edge / Steady headed to the spot / Speakers bump thump thump / All you hearin' on the block / I live life loud / Cause that's the only way to live it / I push it to the Edge / Never stop at the limit."
The radio spot also featured a cameo introduction by hip-hop DJ Funkmaster Flex. The spot aired on national syndicated radio shows like The Steve Harvey Morning Show and The Tom Joyner Morning Show. Additionally, Kelis is scheduled to participate in various Edge sweepstakes giveaways on these shows beginning in February.
A television commercial was also shot that stars Kelis and features the song. The ad opens with the Edge making a red carpet appearance in front of a captive paparazzi crowd. The photographers cannot keep their lens off the Edge as the panoramic opens to reveal Kelis dressed to impress for a VIP event. The ad will begin airing in late December on major television networks throughout the country.
Kelis will also appear on several advertisement campaigns from online to print.

Sean "Diddy" Combs and girlfriend Kim Porter welcomed their twin newborns into the world early this morning. The 36-year-old Porter delivered a set of twin baby girls at New York's Mt. Sinai Hospital this morning (December 21). One twin, D'Lila Star Combs, weighed in at 5 lbs, while the other, Jessie James Combs, measured 5 lbs., 4 oz. Both children are healthy.
According to a statement released by Bad Boy Records, the girls are named after two people that "have incredibly impacted" Diddy and Porter -- their grandmothers. Porter's grandmother's name is Llila Star, while Diddy's grandmother's name was Jessie Smalls.

Diddy had a plane on stand by in Toronto where he is filming 'Raisin in the Sun' and made it just in the nick of time for the delivery. Both Kim and the girls are doing great."
The twin girls join a family full of big brothers; Combs and Porter have a son, Christian, as well as Porter's son, Quincy, from her previous relationship with Al B. Sure, and Combs' son, Justin, from his previous relationship with stylist Misa Hylton-Brim.

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOMESimply C "Pop, Lock & Drop's It" with Huey (Exclusive Interview)
Posted at 12/21/2006 10:30:00 AM
"Pop, Lock & Drop It" (listen here) is a pretty hot single coming straight outta the home of Chingy, St Lunatics, and of course Nelly. St. Louis is getting major buzz and it isn't coming from anyone of them or their camp. It's the golden boy of Unsigned Hype- Mixtapes..Huey. His single has been getting some mad attention lately as one of the hottest songs/videos (dyme and thug eyecandy) on the net and MTV2. I had the pleasure of catching up with him for a quick rap session about his album " The Notebook Paper". Dude was cool and very humble, so you know we had to dig and get the real. But first let's find out who Huey is.Born on the 50 Block of Arlington Ave in St Louis, 19 year old Huey started his love affair with music by producing music. Of course his love only grew from there as he eventually started writing verses to go along with his beats. Mastering his musical talents at age 15 made him a local rap phenomenon on the streets of St. Louis. Now backed with a fan base and the swagger of lyrical street credentials, Huey knew it was only a matter of time before he got a deal. Booking shows and performing anywhere he could and local connections with club DJ's and singing veteran Angela Richardson and a deep ambition was all he needed to snag a deal with JIVE.
Simply C: So you consider yourself a veteran to the rap game already. Going in did you know you were going to make it?
Huey: It was a long process. I knew I didn't want to work a regular job (laughs) so I knew I had to get signed. We grind hard doing shows everywhere we could . We was riding in a van with no heat to get to shows. Then I got up with TJ Chapman who got in touch MeMpHiTz (Wright) at JIVE and "Pop Lock & Drop It" had gotten so many spins in clubs that's what got me signed.
Simply C: Was the transition from unsigned rapper to signed artist a smooth one?
Huey: "Pop, Lock & Drop It" got picked up and things got really busy after the deal was done. We just finished shooting the video not that long ago. It hasn't aired anywhere except Youtube and Myspace.....
Simply C: Wait man I saw it on MTV2 it's pretty cool. I had it pegged for a snap type song but the video made it droppable.......
Huey: You playing...... you saw it on MTV2! For real I haven't even seen it on there. I had some people tell me they saw it somewhere, but I thought it was only on the net!!! I'm buggin!
Simply C: That's what's up (laughing) you heard it here first.....an exclusive for hiphopruckus....we peeped the video on TV before ya boy!
Huey: Wow man that's what's up.........
Simply C: Ok you have dudes like Nelly and Chingy that are known for catchy hooks. So how do you stack up against them and other St. Louis rappers and their albums?
Huey: They do there thing, but I'm nothing like them. See there is a whole other side of St. Louis that the world ain't even heard of yet. That gutta sound. My album got it all love songs, crunk, club bangers all that. It's nothing like them cats I'm in my own lane.
Simply C: Nothing like them....that's cool. So would you call yourself a golden boy?
Huey: Ah, I heard that before. But I don't let that go to my head though.
Simply C: (sigh) So you know I have to ask this......what's your take on Nas' comments about hip hop being dead?
Huey: Man, hip hop isn't dead at all. I mean it needs a twist but it's not dead. That it, is needs to keep switching up.
Simply C: Aight true. How are you contributing to hip hop's comeback?
Huey: Talk it how I live, yeah I spit my life. (Laughing) Spit it how you live! ar
Simply C: You need to use that for a T-shirt logo. So any parting words? When's the album dropping?
Huey: Check out the single "Pop, Lock & Drop It" the album is called "The Notebook Paper" and is dropping March 2007. Place the game in a notebook to make paper!
So that's what's up! Check out this link to see his new video from his album "The Notebook Paper" due out in March 2007. Keep your eyes peeled I got a feeling we'll hear more from Huey. Thanks to Huey and his reps for the exclusive. Holla!!!!!
It is what is

The Game: "Tour Life Sends Me Insane"
Posted at 12/21/2006 08:49:00 AM
Rapper The Game finds it difficult to contain his anger when on tour, because being on the road is too "claustrophobic" for him. The Game - real name Jayceon Taylor- admits he sometimes physically assaults member of his entourage as a result. He tells MTV.com, "Being on the bus is like being in a prison on wheels, man."It's nothing like being at home. You could be on here for 24 hours, confined in this little space and you start getting claustrophobic and when I start getting mad I just start pulling people out of their bunk and kicking them in the face and s**t."Life on the road, you got to be ready for it, and a lot of people don't know that. They think that being a rapper all you got to do is write a 16 (bar sequence), write a hook and then you in the video - you get the chains, you get the girls. "But it ain't like that, it's a lot of hard work."

Nas' Baby Moms Follows Up Tell-All Book With Reality Show
Posted at 12/21/2006 08:47:00 AM
Carmen Bryan, better known to hip-hop fans as Nas' baby mama, recently revealed to Essence magazine that she has a reality show in the works.Bryan, who last month released a memoir titled It's No Secret detailing her affairs with Jay-Z & NBA guard Allen Iverson while still attached to Nas, didn't give any details about the show but hinted it would involve her infamous triangle. She also claimed she's not afraid of any backlash.
"Telling all is a full-time job," Bryan told Essence. "I still love SC, and I still love Nas. Love is an energy that can never be destroyed."
"It wasn't my decision to make this a public affair," she added. "I'm not an MC; I can't go in the studio and respond to individuals. So when Jay-Z and Nas recorded songs about me, they opened this door."

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOMEDame Dash In Court
Posted at 12/20/2006 10:25:00 AM
A panel of judges has shot down hip-hop mogul Damon Dash's bid to ship a sensational multimillion-dollar sex-assault case against him down to Brazil. Dash's lawyer, Robert Kalina, declined to comment. "I'm sure he'd love to bury this case in some little outpost down there, but now he'll have to deal with this in the New York courts," said Raoul Felder, the lawyer for the plaintiff, Kristie Thompson. The $15 million lawsuit says the assault took place on Jan. 1, 2003, after Thompson had met Dash at a New Year's Eve part on the island of Angra off the Brazilian coast. Dash, who has denied the allegations, was never charged criminally.
Thompson filed suit against Dash, 35, in 2003. He sought to have the case moved to Brazil, arguing that it was the site of the alleged attack. The state Appellate Division court sided with Thompson, finding both she and Dash "live and work in New York," as do many of the proposed witnesses.
