Tulsa Hip Hop Shines Via Dangerous Rob
Posted at 10/20/2006 08:18:00 AM
Sir, yes, sir! Tulsa hip-hop has done it. The General of The Dogg Pound Next Generation, Dangerous Rob, is leading the way and pioneering uncharted waters with his endorsement deal with the hip hop luminaries the Dogg Pound.Recently, Dangerous Rob released "Love the Player" for radio play and a mixtape on CD. The mixtape, titled ‘Comin' from tha Thugg', features exclusive tracks by hip hop notables Snoop, Daz, and Makivelli (Tupac / 2Pac). It is only available from Freedam Records in Tulsa, Oklahoma and is expected to become a collector's item in time.
The mixtape is only the beginning of what is to come. Due to his successes in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Japan, we can expect bigger things from Dangerous Rob with the release of his upcoming full-length album ‘Itz a Dangerous World' - scheduled to hit stores in October.
Dangerous Rob, who is also known in hip hop circles as D-Rob or D Rowdy, has been in the hip hop and rap game for 20 years now. He has performed with Chubb Rock, Club Nevaeu, Doug E. Fresh, Dr. Dre, E.P.M.D., Flesh-n-Bone, Ice T, LL Cool J, Melle Mell, Mike Jones, NWA, Ready for the World, Tone' Toni Tony, and the legendary Too $hort. Last March in 2006, Dangerous Rob was seen backstage at the Gypsy Tea Room in Dallas with Daz Dillinger, Kurupt, and Ice Cube.
When asked about his recent successes with Snoop Dogg and the Dogg Pound's newly formed group, The Dogg Pound Next Generation, Dangerous Rob said, "All of my hard work and perseverance is finally paying off and being recognized." D-Rob also wants us to know that the mixtape, radio play, and the video "Cause I'm Black" was only the first salvo in a series of future projects. When asked to explain, Dangerous Rob said, "We [Freedam Records] intend to release another video for the song ‘What I'm About', a short film project with other well-known Oklahoma rappers like Nitro and Young Hustlaz, plus another Dangerous Rob album in 2007."

The Clipse Sophomore Album Set For November Release
Posted at 10/20/2006 08:08:00 AM
After numerous bouts with record label politics and shaky release dates, the Clipse have officially set a November 28 release date for their long awaited follow-up LP, Hell Hath No Fury.Having hit the mixtape circuit with a vengeance, crafting well received street bangers including the Clinton Sparks-assisted "I Got It 4 Cheap" series, the Virginia-bred duo of siblings Malice and Pusha T are finally ready to unleash a full length collection of their unique brand of narcotic laced poetry. The disc will be the brothers' first since their platinum-selling Lord Willing in 2002. The new date is a bit earlier than the December date that had been issued, news that is sure to be music to fans' ears.
"The moving up of the date is purely off the demand of the consumer and the Clipse fan," the duo said in a recent statement. "That's who we doing this for right now. This album is about the fans that kept us relevant. They've helped us carve out our path, and we're very prepared to go against the grain in putting out these releases. We had that confidence that not one conglomerate is gonna hold us back."
With VA beatsmiths The Neptunes handling the entire load of production duties on the record, Malice and Pusha are looking to make up for lost times with the disc and give fans a peek into their personal lives on wax. "The album is a documentary. This is the life of The Clipse, what we're going through, and us spillin' our guts, and letting the world know it ain't been all gravy with us. This album, if it says nothing else, says struggle. It represents struggle."
Hell Hath No Fury hits shelves on November 28 on Re-Up/Jive Records.

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOMEKevin Federline was left writhing in agony after being beaten up by a professional wrestler.
Posted at 10/19/2006 12:48:00 AM

The fledgling rapper and husband of Britney Spears, appeared at a taping of the hit wrestling show 'Monday Night Raw' at the Staples Center, in Los Angeles, this past weekend. Kevin was introduced as the "A-list" friend of villainous wrestler Johnny Nitro as he made his way down to the ring.
As he walked down the ramp, the crowd booed and jeered the former backing dancer. He then grabbed a microphone as he entered the ring and said: "Same people who are booing me now buy my picture when it's on the cover of magazines." Kevin then further taunted the crowd, saying: "Y'all want to hear my rap? Well, you're going to have to wait until my record drops in October." However, the budding rap star was interrupted by WWE champion John Cena who launched a tirade of insults at Kevin, and had fans in hysterics when he said: "You're less talented than Paris Hilton!" The insult prompted K-Fed to lose his cool with the muscle-bound wrestler and he challenged him to a fight, but the foolhardy star was soon put in his place by Cena who picked him above his head and slammed him into the canvas.
A dazed Kevin eventually made his way backstage to recover from his unusual altercation.
The stunt, believed to have been arranged to promote K-Fed's upcoming album 'Playing With Fire', was witnessed by a host of celebrities, including Jackass stars Steve-O and Chris Pontius, ageing rock band ZZ Top and former Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter, who was accompanied by his younger brother Aaron.

Stores Hot over Ice-T Cover
Posted at 10/19/2006 12:39:00 AM
Ice-T and his stripper-wife, Coco, have caused a problem by posing nude in a steamy clinch on the cover of the rap legend's new album - and now stores across the country are demanding it be censored before they stock it."Gangsta Rap," Ice-T's first studio album in seven years, shows him lying on his back in bed with his ravishing wife's ample posterior in full view and one of her legs coyly draped over his private parts.
But while the cover just barely steers clear of being pornographic, it's way too suggestive for most retailers, according to Melee Recordings, which is releasing the record on Halloween. "We're getting lots of flak about it. What we're going to have to do is place stickers over parts of the photo to avoid any problems," one rep said.
Not that Ice-T, who stars on "Law & Order" and has appeared in "New Jack City" and "Frankenpenis," is concerned about the uproar. He told Page Six last night, "What can I say, I have been doing these kinds of things for years." Then, in a swaggering boast about his legendary sexual prowess, Ice-T added, "You should see the picture when Coco's leg is not there."
The cover art is far tamer than an insert inside the box advertising an upcoming 2007 calendar, which features an image of Coco completely naked leaning against a car.
But Ice-T insists he's not all about raunch these days. His new VH1 series, "Ice T's Rap School," which debuted last night, shows the rapper putting a group of eighth-graders from New York Preparatory School on West 68th Street through strenuous tests to transform them into "real rappers."

Rapper Slick Rick Facing Deportation Again
Posted at 10/19/2006 12:35:00 AM
Rapper Slick Rick has enlisted the aid of Russell Simmons' Hip-Hop Summit Action Network to help prevent him from being deported from the United States. The organization will hold a press conference Oct. 24 at 11 a.m. in front of the Federal Court Building in New York.
Slick Rick (born Richard Walters), 41, served five years and 12 days in prison for shooting his cousin and a bystander in a disagreement in 1990.
Under U.S. law, any foreign national who serves more than five years in prison for committing a felony faces automatic deportation.
In 1995, the rapper won a ruling by an immigration judge allowing him to stay in the U.S., but in June 2002 Slick Rick was re-arrested after performing on a Caribbean cruise ship.
When the luxury boat returned to Miami, the Immigration and Naturalization Service cited a 1997 arrest warrant on immigration violations and charged Rick with voluntarily deporting himself and illegally reentering the country.
Rick served 17 months in the INS Detention Facility in Bradenton, Fla., before being released in October 2003.
The rapper's case has been assigned to Florida's 11th Circuit Court and he has been stripped of his status as a permanent resident and once again, faces deportation.
"With all of the real and present threats to American society from terrorism, why is the government chasing this rapper?" asked HSAN Co-Chairman Dr. Benjamin Chavis. "It's an obscene misuse of scarce resources."
Since the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, the U.S. has hardened its policy toward illegal aliens residing in the country.
According to Jean Butterfield, executive director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the U.S. is deporting almost 200,000 aliens per year.
"They're breadwinners whose families are U.S. citizens--and in most cases there's nothing a judge can do to help them," Butterfield said. "The mentality now is enforcement only. Discretion has been taken away from the judges and put in the hands of the executive branch. It's a damaging policy, which has not made the country safer. On the contrary, it inflicts untold hardships on our economy, our families, and our social fabric."
According to Chavis and Slick Rick's supporters, the rapper is a model citizen who completed his parole, has not been convicted of any crimes since his original conviction and is a hardworking family-oriented man.
Says Chavis, "The government is conducting a vendetta against Rick and we're not going to stand for it."

Cops Target Fabolous In NBA Robbery
Posted at 10/19/2006 12:24:00 AM
Investigators are looking into a connection between the shooting of Fabolous and an NBA player having his chain robbed minutes before the incident, police said.Reports have surfaced that Sebastian Telfair, a point guard for the Boston Celtics, was stripped of his $64,000 chain minutes before Fab was shot in front of Sean "Diddy" Combs' Justin's Restaurant in New York City (October 17). Initial reports had Fab being shot in the leg following an altercation in front of the restaurant. Detectives apparently learned of the robbery while probing Fab's shooting. A dozen men, including the Brooklyn rapper, were brought into the 13th precinct for lineups.
Ed Hayes, Telfair's attorney, told ABC's Eyewitness News that his client was "being cooperative." Telfair, the cousin of New York Knicks guard Stephon Marbury, first gained national prominence as a high school hoop star in Brooklyn, NY.
"He's a witness and nobody suspects him of anything," Hayes told Eyewitness. "He's a lovely young man."
Fab is set to be arraigned on weapon charges in Lower Manhattan, NY today. According to investigators, Rascharm Davis, 29, Percell German, 23 and Kevin Bass, 18, are also scheduled to appear in court today.
