R. KELLY ACCUSED OF BEATING ‘MENTOR’: Man files suit accusing singer of assault and cheating him out of royalties.

A man calling himself a musician’s “mentor” is suing R. Kelly over claims that the singer beat him and reneged on payment of songwriting royalties for the hit “Step in the Name of Love.”

In his lawsuit filed Wednesday in Chicago, Henry "Love" Vaughn – who describes himself as Kelly’s longtime "mentor and guide" – says he came up with the concept for the 2003 song, but has yet to receive his portion of royalties he feels he deserves, reports the Chicago Sun Times.

Vaughn is also claiming that Kelly and unnamed others dragged him to the basement of the artist’s mansion in Olympia Fields, Illinois on Feb. 19 and beat him up over the dispute. "Kelly repeatedly struck [Vaughn] about the face and body with his fists," the suit mentioned, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Vaughn's suit also claims that Kelly got the "concept" for "Step in the Name of Love," after suggesting that they create a song based on Chicago’s steppin' dance style. Vaughn alleges that Kelly later went back on an oral agreement to pay him one-half of the money he earned from the song. The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages for assault, false imprisonment, breach of contract and other claims.

Kelly's spokesperson, Allan Mayer, denies the charges and calls Vaughn a "hanger-on" who was attempting to extort money from Kelly. Mayer adds that Kelly has managed to pen more than 2,000 songs without ever using a co-writer.

Ice-T "Drops Knowledge" In New Reality Show

Legendary emcee Ice-T will be literally schooling aspiring hip-hoppers with the premiere of his new show on VH1 entitled "Ice-T's RapSchool"

The program, which is set to air a special sneak peek on Tuesday, October 17 at 11pm EST, will officially begin airing on Friday, October 20 at 9pm EST. The sneak preview will follow "VH1's 3rd Annual Hip Hop Honors" and will feature back to back episodes when it airs on the 20th.

The veteran rapper will be bringing his wisdom to New York City's exclusive York Prep School on Manhattan's Upper West Side in an effort to teach privileged youngsters the art form of hip-hop.

The West Coast pioneer's students will get a crash course education in various methods of rhyming, deejaying and break dancing from both Ice himself as well as other special guest instructors that the rapper will include in the program.

The hip-hop lesson plans are also utilized to help the students combat personal obstacles including speech impediments and coping with a parent's divorce. After intense and personal sessions with Ice-T, the students also will face a challenging final exam in the form of opening up for fellow pioneering rap group Public Enemy at a show at B.B. King's in New York.

"Ice-T's Rap School" airs on VH1 beginning October 17 at 11pm EST.

Dr. Dre Biography Set To Hit Stores In Early '07

A new Dr. Dre opus is coming sooner than you think, but it's not the long-awaited Detox album--and it's not by Dr. Dre.

The acclaimed producer has lived a largely reclusive life outside of the media, but author Ronin Ro's upcoming book Dr. Dre: The Biography aims to reveal the artist's celebrated life through extensive reporting, interviews, and research.

"We see his life in context--a few important facts about his personal life, how many of the hits were created, and how he runs Aftermath," Ro told AllHipHop.com. "[Also], the chain of events that led to Tupac's comments [and] how Dre reacted to the changes Hip-Hop underwent during the past few years."

The book also examines the viewpoints of insiders around Dr. Dre while chronicling many of the luminaries he introduced to pop culture, including Eminem, 50 Cent, and the Game.

Similar to those artists, controversy has been Dre's counterpart since his days in NWA.

In the '80s and '90s, his experiences were well-documented via a number of high-profile incidents, arrests, musical outings, feuds, and other controversial matters.

With The Biography, Ro hopes to garner the same attention as that of his previous novels: Have Gun Will Travel - The Spectacular Rise and Fall of Death Row Records and the Run DMC biography Raising Hell: The Reign, Ruin and Redemption of Run DMC.

"I'd say the entire book [is controversial]. Instead of a Have Gun Will Travel retread, I started from scratch, approached this with fresh eyes, and crammed about two books' worth of material into one," he said. "You can't please all of the people all of the time, so certain sections might infuriate some readers, particularly things about Eminem, the Game and Tupac; the NWA reunion attempt; the issue of who does what and what actually constitutes being a producer in this genre; and more...I mean, the list goes on."

Although unauthorized, Ro said he's been able to discern fact more readily than a book that is overtly endorsed by the subject.

"This is reporting, not data entry. And at the end of the day, my readers will know I've once again tried to report the truth, instead of taking marching orders from some flash-in-the-pan pop rapper or groupie," said Ro. "This book documents [Dre's] false starts, setbacks, triumphs, evolution and stewardship of a company that, a decade later, is still in business, and managing to bring in money during some pretty lean times for his industry."

Although Dre's overall career is fairly pop-oriented based on his commercial sales and success, the book is decidedly Hip-Hop in nature. And Ro said that readers need to become knowledgeable.

"I'm not holding anyone's hand. You want Uncle Remus, you watch Disney. I'm not explaining everything for white people and dilettantes," he said. "You either know Hip-Hop or you don't. And if you do, you'll like this book."

Ro also vowed that the book will reveal "what really happened" between the Game and Dr. Dre. Game recently admitted that Dre would not be a part of his sophomore album The Doctor's Advocate, although Dre had been highly influential on the young rapper's debut album The Documentary.

But while Ro managed to unearth many facets of Dre's life, his extensive reporting was unable to determine whether Dr. Dre's Detox would ever be released to the public--certainly to the chagrin of fans.

"I really have no idea. I see it this way: even if Detox were to never come out, at least he had a cool hobby," said Ro. "Some people collect stamps and build models, others mow the lawn. Dre taped a few jam sessions with his house band and created grooves he can throw on future productions. And for a decade, Aftermath succeeded where so many other artist-run labels in any genre crashed and burned."

Ro has penned a number of novels, including Tales To Astonish: Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and the American Comic Book Revolution, Bad Boy: The Influence of Sean Puffy Combs on the Music Industry.

Next, he plans to release King of the Slashers: The History of Halloween.

Cassidy In Critical Condition After Car Accident In New Jersey

Philadelphia rapper Cassidy was involved in a serious car accident on Wednesday night (October 4) in New Jersey, leaving him in critical condition.

According to MTVNews.com, the rapper was riding as a passenger in an SUV on its way to a studio in Yonkers, New York. While in transit, the SUV was struck in the side by a U-Haul truck when it swerved into oncoming traffic. the rapper is suffering from a fractured skull, as well as numerous broken bones in the left side

Cassidy was rushed to nearby hospital, where he is currently being treated. MTV reports that of his face.

He is currently in critical condition, but is said to be breathing on his own and is undergoing a CAT scan.

The rapper's label head and producer Swizz Beatz broke the news while being interviewed on Los Angeles' Power 106 radio station. The producer told listeners to pray for Cassidy.

The rapper is currently working on his third album, which will be released through Swizz Beatz' Full Surface imprint through J records.

T.I. makes-a-wish for an ailing Fan.

For all you cats out there that think rappers are selfish, unforgiving and don't really give a damn about their fans you're wrong..very wrong (See Photos). This past weekend Grand Hustle/Atlantic recording artist T.I. joined forces yet again with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to grant an Orlando teen's wish. The rapper, who joined Grand Hustle labelmate Young Dro on stage for a taping of It's Showtime at the Apollo, met with 15-year-old Sara Labare Sunday, October 1st at the Apollo Theatre. T.I. has granted a total of three wishes for the foundation.

Labare, who suffers from an autoimmune disorder, along with her family received gifts from T.I., including a digital camera, CDs, and signed posters, and sat front row during T.I.'s performance.

You got a big heart T.I. and I ain't made at ya playa, and you people that think these rappers are something else then they are don't believe the hype, some of these Artists are special people...Destro

Black Eyed Peas singer Fergie did major home improvement projects when she was high on crystal meth.The star who's single "London Bridge" is topping the BillBoard 100 Pop Charts, and whose real name is Stacy Ferguson, kicked her drug habit years ago but admits she spent much of her youth partying - and fixing up her home.

She tells Rolling Stone magazine, "Me and my girlfriends would get ready, go out to the club, come home, change into my faux-fur coats and my sunglasses and rent a limo - spending all my child-actor money - and go to the club Garage that would start at 6 am and dance til 12. Then I graduated to crystal (meth)."And it started being more about going to (hardware store) Home Depot at four in the morning and getting crafty at home. It became less of a fun thing and more of a habit."

Once again, reports are surfacing that Michael Jackson is planning a comeback album with some of today’s hottest producers. Only time will tell if this latest story, which has the singer working with Black Eyed Peas member Will.I.Am, will actually pan out.

Jackson is said to be living in Ireland now following his near year-long exile in Bahrain. Launch/Yahoo Music quotes the uncle of Ron "Neff U" Feemster – a former producer with Eminem, 50 Cent, and Ne-Yo – who claims that the King of Pop has recruited some high-profile talent to produce the album.

Feemster's uncle, Charles "Big Chuck" Stanton, told the Los Angeles Times that he visited the artist’s Ireland home and met "a musically focused and creatively fired-up Jackson."

Stanton said he is "ready to take over the world. He's got some hot records. Will.I.Am did one, Teddy Riley [did one]. We're giving Michael a lot of edgy street records. He's putting melodies to some hard party records."

Jackson's camp has yet to comment about the reports.

Kanye Signs With William Morris Agency, Launches West Brands LLC

Kanye West has been announced as the newest addition to the William Morris Agency, the firm that also represents Sean "Diddy" Combs.

William Morris will oversee and negotiate all aspects of the Chicago rapper's recordings, production, publishing, touring, and endorsements.

"We've always believed that Kanye West is one of the most talented, driven, important artists to emerge in a long time," said West's manager Gee Roberson, of Hip-Hop Since 1978. "William Morris clearly shares that vision, and we're inspired by their creativity and energy. We look forward to working together to maximize Kanye's limitless potential as an artist, a personality, and a brand."

West will also pursue different business ventures through his newly formed company West Brands LLC, which will be overseen by his mother, Dr. Donda West.

A former college professor, Mrs. West has helped guide her son through a career that has earned him six Grammy's based off his critically-acclaimed albums The College Dropout (Roc-A-Fella/Def Jam) and Late Registration.

Britney Spears is said to be "livid" with husband Kevin Federline after he left her literally holding the baby.

Just three weeks after the birth of their second son, Sutton Pierce, feret-faced Kevin decided to wet the baby's head with a boys only boozy weekend in Las Vegas.

He left Britney, 24, home alone to cope with the new baby and their 13-month-old son, Sean Preston. Now the couple are barely on speaking terms.

Before the birth, Britney had banned the wannabe rapper from going on lads' trips to Sin City. But it seems that 27-year-old Kevin wanted to show her who wears the trousers in their relationship.

Reverting to his bad-boy ways, he hired a private jet and flew a gang of mates to Vegas. They headed straight for the Venetian hotelcasino last Friday night and started partying.

K-Fed, as he is nicknamed, had even dispatched cringey invites which read: "There is a new Fed in the house. Give a shout out to Sutton Pierce Federline. Celebrate with the new daddy in school."

Our source reveals: "Kev booked a table at Tao nightclub for both nights where he knocked back Veuve Clicquot champagne and passed around the requisite cigars to celebrate his son's birth. He was surrounded by women and got so into the spirit of things he was seen dancing on tables."

Realising that Britney might not be best pleased with his antics, Kevin splashed out on a "push present" for his missus. To show his appreciation for what she had gone through giving birth, he gave her a pair of diamond earrings. But instead of winning her round, the gift had the opposite effect.

A friend confides: "Kevin thought the earrings would make up for the fact that he left Britney with the kids all weekend while he partied it up in Vegas.

"But she was livid that he even considered going in the first place, so when he handed over the present she got so furious she stormed off. They are now barely speaking.

"All Brit wants is for Kevin to be more hands on with the kids. She thought their relationship was back on track."

The couple have had several rocky patches since they got married two years ago.

Last May, Britney got so fed up with Kevin drinking and smoking dope that she banished him to the basement of their Malibu home.

They seemed to have patched things up - until this latest episode. It means that Britney might have to delay her plans to have renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz take some happy family snaps.

We hear: "She went gaga over the photos Leibovitz took of Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes and Suri. She thought they looked like the perfect family and she'd love the same."

Still, Kev won't have much further opportunity to step out of line - mother-in-law Lynn is moving in to help out with the kids. Talk about bringing in the reinforcements...
