Eminem's Former Protege' Gets Prison Sentence
Posted at 9/29/2006 08:24:00 AM
Eminem's former protege, Royce Da 5'9, has been sentenced to one year in prison after violating his probation, stemming from a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).The rapper, born Royce Montgomery, was arrested and charged with DUI over the summer in his hometown of Oakland County, Michigan. He was sentenced to one year in jail, but may have a chance to challenge the judge's decision, which supporters have deemed as "harsh".
A source close to the Detroit, Michigan, native tells AllHipHop.com, "He may be able to appeal it. "I think they are really making examples out of people. He didn't even blow that much over. It wasn't like he was drunk and he hit someone - he was driving home at four in the morning.
"It's never like this is the city of Detroit, or in Wayne County." Montgomery, who had a bust-up with Eminem when the Stan star snubbed him to sign 50 Cent to his label Shady Records, is being held in a Pontiac, Michigan, prison.

Bone Crusher Breaks Celebrity Fit Club Record; Preps Rap/Rock Album
Posted at 9/29/2006 07:59:00 AM
Bone Crusher is setting records these days, but not on the music charts. No, he's set a record for weight loss. The Atlanta native, who recently released his sophomore album, has set the weight loss record for VH1's hit reality show, "Celebrity Fit Club." He's currently on the show's fourth season and after 16 grueling weeks of strict dieting, intense physical challenges and exercise, he's lost 43 pounds. And there is still one episode to go.
"Everyone wants to know how I lost all the weight," said Bone Crusher. "I'll tell them it's a lot of hard work and a few of my favorite recipes. I had no idea what I was getting into, but it's a lot of fun. I've changed the way I eat and I'm seeing and feeling real results."
The rapper is currently the captain of his weight loss team, The Fat Crushers, which includes stars Carnie Wilson, Erika Eleniak and Nick Turturro, who are battling against Ted Lange, Tina Yothers, and Vincent Pastore for the grand prize of $150,000 in cash and prizes.
The final episode is scheduled to air on October 1, but for Bone Crusher, the experience has changed his whole way of life, even after the show. He now wants to help other people of his stature lose weight.
"I'd like to do a work out tape for big people," exclaimed Bone Crusher. "There's a lot of stuff out there for all the skinny minnies, but nothing for bigger people who are just starting to embrace the weight loss process."
While staying active and eating right is a big focus for Bone Crusher nowadays, he has not strayed away from music. Aside from recently releasing his sophomore album, Release The Beast, independently, he is also working on a rock/rap effort with the likes of Jim Johnson of the super producing group Usual Suspects, Good Charlotte, Billy Hume, and Bread and Water.
"I got a bunch of crazy black boys that like that metal sh--," said the rapper. "That's why we named the band, The Onslaught, and I'm not just rapping on this record, I do a little singing too. It's the perfect mix of rap and rock."
The rock album will be released through his own record label, Vainglorious Entertainment, which he founded with his wife and manager, Aneesah Bray. The label has already signed several artists including 6th Day, Sean Falyon the Great, Cottimouf and Priscilla DeVine, who all fall under a wide array of genres including rap, hip-hop, bluegrass and crunk, among other categories.
In addition, Bone Crusher is slated to appear on the Tyra Banks Show on Friday (September 29), as well as the Iron Chef America show on the Food Network as a guest judge.

Ying Yang Twins Get 'Dangerous'
Posted at 9/29/2006 07:54:00 AM
Atlanta's strip-club-loving duo the Ying Yang Twins are back with a new album, and what they hope will be seen as a new sound. Named for Miami's pioneering hip-hop act 2 Live Crew, the CD will feature trademark party tunes from longtime producer Mr. Collipark, plus contributions from another "hip" hit maker."I'm co-executive producing it with one of hip-hop's legends, Wyclef Jean," said Collipark while attending Orlando's TJ's DJ's Music Conference. "We're gonna do, like, 75 percent of the album together, and it's ridiculous! It's huge music, international music. I didn't think we'd be able to top creatively what we did on the last one, but this one is blowing it out the water."
The man who first made noise in '05 with his trademark intimate club records like the Twins' 'Wait' and David Banner's 'Play' only plans to move forward.
"A lot of people came at me for the sound, but you know, the whisper record was so big that you can't keep trying to redo that. So many people are stealing and borrowing from what we did, I don't even wanna do it anymore," he said. "But we continue to make sexy music. That's my job -- to try to figure out a new way to make it bigger."
The first single, 'Dangerous,' is at radio now. '2 Live Crew' drops in late November.

MUSIC | VIDEOS | INTERVIEWS | NEW ARTIST | HOMEOl' Dirty Bastard's Final Album To Drop In November
Posted at 9/28/2006 06:07:00 AM
Ol' Dirty Bastard's (ODB) final studio album is finally set to hit stores this November to commemorate the second anniversary of the rapper's death, which occurred on November 13, 2004.The album, titled A Son Unique, will be released through the Damon Dash Music Group, and will feature an all-star line-up of guest appearances by Missy Elliot, Macy Gray, Joe Budden, N.O.R.E., Clipse, Pharrell and many of his Wu-Tang brethren.
As one of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan and solo artist, ODB has sold more than seven million albums. His death was sudden and unexpected, shocking the hip-hop world when he passed while recording at a Manhattan studio in 2004.
A month after his death, the New York Medical Examiner's Office ruled the rapper's death an accident, after finding that he had died from a fatal mixture of Cocaine and Tramadol, which is a prescription drug for severe pain.
After being released from prison in 2003, ODB signed with Damon Dash's Roc-a-Fella Records and changed his moniker to Dirt McGirt. Work on A Son Unique began in 2004 with the RZA at the production helm.
The album is slated for release November 7.
