50 Cent Busted in Silver Lamborghini

Posted at

TMZ has confirmed that rapper 50 Cent (aka Curtis Jackson, pictured on left) was arrested around 2:00PM this afternoon in Manhattan. Law enforcement officials in an unmarked car pulled over the star's silver Lamborghini at the corner of 8th Ave. and 35th Ave. in Midtown New York after they say he made an unsafe lane change.

Police tell TMZ they removed Fiddy from his car and cuffed him in front of several witnesses. Because of the crowd that began gathering around the scene, cops determined it to be an unsafe situation so they took him to a police station down the street from the scene. The car was not towed as police tell TMZ there was no reason to impound the car.

Police issued 50 four summons: one for an unsafe lane change, one because his driver's license had expired, one because his Lambo is unregistered with the state and another because the car is also uninsured. He was issued the tickets and released. The gangsta rapper has a long and storied history with police, starting from when he was busted in a high school gym class in 1994 for hiding crack vials in his sneakers. He was then nailed again that year for felony drug charges; with these busts occurring only three weeks apart.

In 2002, the rapper found trouble again when he and members of his entourage were arrested after New York police allegedly found two loaded guns in the rapper's SUV. All five occupants of the vehicle were charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.

Of course, Fiddy is perhaps most known for surviving a brutal attack in2000, where he was shot nine times in front of his grandparent's house in Queens, NY.

50 Cent, Sean 'Diddy' Combs Declare 'Cease Fire'

Posted at

50 Cent and Sean "Diddy" Combs ended their feud Wednesday after mutual acquaintances of the two moguls persuaded them to end their beef, official sources said.

Sources close to the negotiations told AllHipHop.com that the two spoke in person last night (Sept. 6) about their verbal jabs at each other on upcoming albums and mixtapes.

"We are definitely doing a 'cease fire,'" Chris Lighty, CEO of Violator Management, told AllHipHop.com.

According to sources, 50 Cent's complaint with Combs emerged after the Bad Boy mogul refused to release Bad Boy recording artist Mase from contractual binds so that he could sign to 50 Cent's G-Unit imprint.

50 Cent lashed out at Combs on Hip-Hop Is Dead: G-Unit Radio Part 22, a new mixtape.

Who shot Biggie Smalls/If we don't get them they're gonna kill us all/Man, Puffy know who hit that ni**a, man, that n***a saw him/He's scared 'dem boys from the West Side will break him off, jump on his ass,so he run to Harlem to shake 'em off," 50 Cent raps on the song "Hip-Hop.

Elsewhere on the mixtape, the track called "Get Down," featuring Tony Yayo and Hot Rod, finds 50 Cent taking more jabs at Combs.

However, an unreleased version of the intro track to Combs' upcoming album Press Play began circulating the internet, leading to speculation that Diddy's yelling of "I'm richer, b***h!" on the song was directed at 50 Cent.

Sources said that the track was recorded before Combs' and 50's beef went public. In an interview with Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex, Combs downplayed the turmoil between himself and 50.

‘THE WIRE’ TAPS INTO NEW THEME: Fourth season focuses on inner city schools

Posted at

With much anticipation, the HBO original series “The Wire” returns for a 13-week fourth season on Sunday, September 10. Off the air since 2004, the show, which tackles the distresses of a Baltimore slum backdrop, has won public and critical acclaim for its riveting take on social issues, crime, police, and politics in the inner city.

Creator David Simon, a former police reporter in West Baltimore, and writer/producer Ed Burns are bringing another important issue to the forefront in the upcoming season. The fourth season of “The Wire” will expand its focus to include a look at the role of the educational system in an urban environment.

The school is porous,” Burns said of the societal reflection of the show’s latest focus. “If there's a problem in the neighborhood, there's a problem in the school."

In addition to the perspectives of law enforcement and city hall, the fourth season introduces young stars Tristan Wilds as Michael, Maestro Harrell as Randy, Julito McCullum as Namond and Jermaine Crawford as Dukie to develop the student view for the new season. Although the show will continue to tell a story that has developed over the past three years, incorporating a new story with the kids and schools is the latest theme installment for the show.

“We always sort of conceded the show this way,” Simon explained, “rather than do the same thing over and sort of add incremental characters to a continuing theme, we really wanted to reinvent the theme of the show every season. We really wanted to depict an American city at the millennium, all of its attendant problems, all of its promise, and really examine not just sort of what is, but why it is that we've built what we've built and why it is that the richest, most powerful country in the world can't solve its fundamental problems when it comes to places like Baltimore. And there are a lot of places like Baltimore. It's not a unique place. So we've always had the idea that there's going to be a new story, a new crew coming in. We're going to be slicing off a different piece of the city. The first year was the law enforcement and the drug war; the second year was the working class and the idea of the death of work; the third season was the political element. And now, it's just quite natural to do schools.”

Simon continues that the key to fitting it all in and making smooth transitions with the characters is a very careful process with a lot of editing. However, he doesn’t mind the work as it is all a part of the show’s initial plan.

"Also, along with the show’s signature change in focus, Detective RolandPrezPryzbylewski (played by Jim True-Frost) leaves the force for the classroom much like Burns himself who left the force after 20 years to become a teacher. He said that what’s surprising is the idea that the halls of high school can be just as treacherous as the city streets.

“You step into that classroom after being 20 years in the street, you think you are pretty tough; and you find real quickly that you are not,” Burns said of the character’s transition. “It's a very stunning change of who you are. And it tests things that nothing else in my life tested. But it's also the greatest thing in the world to teach.”

With such acclaim for avant-garde television, a number of critics and fans often raise the question as to why this particular show that Simon insists is not another police procedural, has not gotten the type of following expected. After all, critics are calling it one of the best shows on television, but even its return for a fourth season was up in the air for a moment.

“I think there are a number of reasons,” Simon suspected. “I'm going to be very blunt. I think one of the factors is that because we have a significant African minority cast, there's a certain portion of America that will change the channel, and not in any sort of grandly venial racist way. But there are a lot of people that are going to look and see that many black faces looking back at them and they are going to say, oh, this is not my story.”

However, the cast and crew of the show don’t let the loss of demographic stop their complex and creative juices from flowing. In fact, it’s quite possibly that ignorance, in addition to support of the critics, which fuels them.

Additionally, when facing the complexities of the story, Simon and Burns pulled together a young cast that easily adapted to the setting.

“We read a lot of people. And I really leaned hard on Ed for this because, again, it was his classroom where a lot of these -- the sensibility of the story we were trying to convey. He taught at Hamilton Middle and Baltimore for three years, and then City College for four, I believe. And Ed really was the guiding light on this. So, I mean, I can sort recognize the acting, but Ed was trying to recognize certain souls, in a way, that were important for the story,” he said.

The young cast explained that after most of them read through the script as a group, they’d already begun to meld into the characters. But when the taping started, it became even more intense.

“We all became our characters over a period,” Maestro Harrell said. “Just the show in general, I mean, after going to Baltimore to start shooting and seeing – I mean, it's almost like you want to say it's a different country. It's a completely new experience. It's almost like seeing life through their eyes. In some of the houses we shot in ... I walked in one and I was like, is this a set? And they were like, ‘No, somebody lives here’ – just seeing the kids who actually do go through that.”

Co-star Julito McCullum, who has also starred in "Akeelah and the Bee," added: “Seeing how hard they go through things; This is not a joke. What you see on the screen is what's really going down. When we go inside their house, it's like, oh, my God, this is crazy. But the people in there, they have good souls. You know, it's like, how could you live here? But they are great people.”

HBO’s “The Wire” also brings back faves Lance Reddick, Sonja Sohn, Wendell Pierce, Dominic West, and Glynn Turman. “The Wire” airs Sundays at 10pm. The highly acclaimed complete third season box set is now available on DVD. For MORE click on: www.HBO.com/thewire .

Diddy Expecting Twins With Girlfriend Kim Porter

Posted at

Yes, as previously reported, Diddy is having another child. But, not just one, he's having a pair of new children.

The rap mogul and girlfriend, Kim Porter, announced on Diddy's MySpace page on Tuesday (September 5) that they're expecting twins.

"We interrupt your browsing for this emergency announcement," Diddy said via a video statement. "I'm telling people right now, no press announcement, just telling people and my family that I am having twins. It is official. Two more Combs. World, you're in trouble now."

Although the initial announcement took place last month after Porter refused an alcoholic beverage during Diddy's Saint-Tropez, France, party for the European launch of his Unforgivable perfume, he didn't realize there were expecting twins until just recently.

"I woke up, and I was standing there and looking at how beautiful she is, and I was like, 'Baby, you're kinda big,' " he said. "Not in a way that would upset her or nothing, just kind of big for the amount of months she is. So I said, 'Baby, you need to go to the doctor, because you're kind of big. You're ready to give birth right now.'"

After the doctor examine, the news was given. Diddy was overjoyed by the news, kissing and hugging Kim throughout the videotaped message.

Diddy already has two children: an 8-year-old son named Christian Casey with Porter and a 12-year-old named Justin from a previous relationship with Misa Hylton-Brim. This is Porter's second; she has a 15-year-old son, Quincy, from a previous relationship with R&B singer Al B. Sure.

B-Boy Game Coming To PlayStation

Posted at

Video game giant PlayStation is expanding its relationship with hip-hop culture with the release of B-Boy, a new video game influenced by the company’s sponsorship of the annual UK B-Boy Championships.

The game, developed by FreeStyleGames in collaboration with Rock Steady Crew member Crazy Legs and DJ Hooch, will also feature scenes from the championships as players build crews to battle real-life superstar B-Boys and event host Crazy Legs in "B-Boy Life" mode.

The idea for B-Boy sprung from years of discussion among those at PlayStation, who has sponsored the Championships over the last 11 years.

"Over the many years of sponsorship, we have talked about taking the inspiration from the championships to create a B-Boy game. Now it's here, we are all excited. This games comes with all the authenticity of B-Boy culture, featuring the top B-Boys from the around the world, and the dynamic game play we always dreamed of," said Carl Christopher of PlayStation.

The first UK B-Boy Championships were held in 1996, as a small underground hip-hop event at London's Shepherds Bush Empire.

The goal of the original event, which featured Crazy Legs and performances from London Posse and Schoolly D, was to put a much needed spotlight on the effect and reach of B-Boy culture by showing the art of battle between B-Boy crews.

The also attracted national qualifiers in Japan, Korea, USA & Europe.

This year's event, hosted by Crazy Legs and Afrika Islam of the Universal Zulu Nation, will feature performances from Big Daddy Kane as well as popping, locking and beatbox battles.

The B-Boy game is slated to be released this month on PlayStation Portable (PSP) and PlayStation 2.

The UK B-Boy Championships will be Oct. 7 and 8 at Carling Academy, Brixton and London's Brixton Academy.
