Diddy Brushes Off Cassie's Rocky Week: 'I'm Going To Be With Her Until She Gets It Right'
Posted at 8/19/2006 10:10:00 AM
Even while he's partying overseas, Diddy isn't too out of touch to know what's going on in the U.S.Cassie, Bad Boy's latest princess, debuted at #4 this week on the SoundScan charts, selling just north of 100,000 copies of her self-titled
Last week, however, was a different story. An alternate "Me & U" video — which Cassie calls unofficial — leaked to the Net. In the clip, Cassie is getting very intimate with a man, singing in her bra and panties, pulling a man's pants down and getting videotaped Paris Hilton style. But that seemed to be the least of her problems.
While promoting her album last week, Cassie stopped at New York radio station Hot 97, where she had interviews with Funkmaster Flex and Angie Martinez. In one of the show's more controversial segments, Cassie rated several male recording artists — including Ne-Yo, Justin Timberlake and T.I. — on a scale of 1-10 for sexiness. To top it off, Cassie had some less-than-stellar performances on MTV's "TRL" and BET's "106 & Park."
While in the U.K., Diddy brushed off Cassie's rocky performances, chalking it up to her inexperience.
"She had her first television performance, and she had an all right performance," he said. "You could hear the nervousness in her voice. And to be honest, I kind of smiled at it, because it made me really appreciate what I really love about her: She's a regular person. And we, as artists, we sometimes get nervous. I told her it's like riding a bike: You're gonna fall down, you got to keep on getting on it. I'm with her through her development, and I have no questioning on her ability, on her singing ability. It just made me appreciate that she got nervous, and it was kind of cute to me, to be honest.
"It takes time when you're developing a new artist," he continued. "You can't be fickle. Some people are going to have good days and bad days. The thing about Bad Boy is, we're with our artists through all days. She's not an artist that has a problem with her vocals or singing. You've got to understand that success for her is coming out of nowhere. It's just so huge, and sometimes everybody handles it differently. So I'm quite sure she'll get over it. She's going to have to. That's part of being a recording artist, and sometimes it takes time. I don't care how many performances it is, I'm going to be with her until she gets it right."
Cassie addressed last week's events on her MySpace page.
"I am aware that my live performances have been pretty bad," she posted. "No excuses, I'm still getting over stage fright. I am very upset with the series of events this week, and I do not appreciate people making me look and sound crazy. I'm not a whore or a bitch, which is what people have been making me out to be. I'm a 19-year-old girl, I'm single, and I'm working my ass off."

C-Murder's In the House, Ordered Back Into Home Confinement
Posted at 8/19/2006 10:07:00 AM
Barely a month after being released from house arrest, C-Murder, who now prefers to go by Corey Miller, has been ordered back into home confinement. As SOHH previously reported, Miller was released from home incarceration on July 14.
The New Orleans bred rapper had been under house arrest since he was released on bond in March, after the Louisiana Supreme Court overturned his murder conviction and accepted his request for a new trial.
Miller was convicted of second-degree murder in 2003, for his alleged involvement in the fatal shooting of Steve Thomas, 16, outside the now-defunct Platinum Club in Louisiana.
Prior to his release from house arrest in July, prosecutors were trying to get Miller put back in jail for violating the terms of the home confinement program.
Prosecutors alleged that Miller violated terms of his house arrest several times, which include going to a drive-in restaurant, coming home late from a court-authorized trip and being out of range on two occasions from electronic monitoring equipment.
Judge Martha Sassone, who set Miller's bond in March, said she didn't agree with the prosecutor's allegations and turned down their request to put the 35 year old rapper back in jail. She then granted Miller the freedom to move in Jefferson and Orleans parishes, provided he was in residence from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Sassone's new order to put Miller back in house arrest comes two days after a state appeals court ruled that her decision to remove the rapper from home confinement was improper.
After Miller's release from arrest, prosecutors appealed Sassone's decision, arguing to the Fifth Circuit that she abused her wide discretion in making the decision.
A three-judge panel of the Fifth Circuit found "inadequate support" for the prosecutors' arguments of house arrest violations and ruled that Sassone did not abuse her discretion.
Until his retrial, Miller is not allowed to leave his home at any time, except for a court hearing this month. Attorneys from both sides have not issued comment on the order.

Jennifer Lopez and Former Husband Battle Over Tell-All Book
Posted at 8/19/2006 09:41:00 AM
A dispute between Jennifer Lopez and her ex-husband Ojani Noa over his proposed tell-all book about his relationship are beginning to erupt, but will not end up in court, attorneys said Wednesday.Lopez, 36, filed a lawsuit April 10 and shortly thereafter obtained a temporary restraining order barring Noa from publishing intimate details of her sex life.
The proposed book, reportedly to be titled "The Unknown Truth: A Passionate Portrait of a Serial Thriller," was allegedly going to tell about Lopez having "multiple duplicitous sexual affairs" with a fellow cast member on the set of the movie "Anaconda", with Miami Beach nightclub impresario Chris Paciello, with rapper/mogul Sean Combs, with whom she later had a relationship, and with singer Marc Anthony, whom she married in 2004, her court papers state.
Under the preliminary injunction Lopez filed against Noa, he was prohibited from "criticizing, denigrating, casting in a negative light or otherwise disparaging or causing disparagement to plaintiff.”
The court injunction also stated that Noa could not disclose "any private or intimate details about (Lopez) or Noa's relationship with (her)," from which he could receive payment. He was also directed to not sell or disseminate a manuscript of the book.
Noa claimed that Lopez was having an affair with Anthony at the same time she was involved with Combs and while Anthony was still married to former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres.
He also planned to write that Lopez's mother was a "racist" and had a gambling problem, according to Lopez's court papers.
Lopez married Noa in February 1997 after meeting him in a Miami restaurant. They divorced 11 months later. Lopez’s second husband was choreographer Cris Judd, whom she married in September 2001 and divorced less than nine months later. She was engaged to actor Ben Affleck before marrying Anthony.

SPIKE LEE’S KATRINA DOC PREMIERES IN N.O.: Thousands, including director, attend screening of HBO film at New Orleans Arena.
Posted at 8/18/2006 01:45:00 PM
Spike Lee’s HBO documentary, "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts," had a red carpet premiere Wednesday at the New Orleans Arena attended by the filmmaker himself, execs from the network and thousands of viewers affected by the deadly Hurricane Katrina. One evacuee who had returned to New Orleans in search of real estate after evacuating to Cleveland, said she felt "spiritually drawn" to attend the film about the devastation of New Orleans following the storm.
"I wanted to come to this so bad. I needed to come," Mildred White, 59, told The Associated Press. "I feel like I haven't had a good cleansing. I feel like this will be cleansing for me, like going to a funeral."
At a press conference Tuesday with historian Douglas Brinkley and HBO officials, Lee said he hopes the film will bring attention back to the region.
"People are still in dire straits. We want to put the focus back here," Lee said.
A woman whose 5-year-old daughter drowned in the flood told Lee she planned to drive from Fort Worth, Texas, to see his film. The son of a woman who died in her wheelchair at the city's convention center told Lee he would be driving in from Alabama for the screening.
"I told them not to come," Lee said Tuesday night. "I'm really worried about them. This is not going to be easy."
New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin, who appears in the documentary, said he wasn’t sure how he would respond emotionally to the movie, which premieres in four parts on HBO (parts 1 and 2 on Aug. 21; parts 3 and 4 on Aug. 22.)
"The power of film will allow some people to heal," said Nagin. "I'm going to see a lot tonight. It's going to be almost like living through it again. I have plenty of tissue in my pocket."

The Game's Manager Says Game's Relationship With Dre "Stronger" Than Ever
Posted at 8/18/2006 01:36:00 PM
The last time SOHH.com reported on The Game, reports had just surfaced that the Compton emcee officially left Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records. Now, Chuck Taylor is three months away from releasing his sophomore album, The Doctor's Advocate, on his own imprint Black Wall Street/Geffen. According to Jimmy Rosemond, Game's manager and head of Czar Entertainment, Game is still working closely with Dre. In fact, their relationship "is way stronger now than it was before."
"If you look at the history and that's what people tend not to do a lot of times... is game on Geffen? Has he left Aftermath? You just gotta look at the history of Dr. Dre and when you look at the history of Dr. Dre you'll see that every artist that Dr. Dre had, there was a time where he allowed them to blossom and move on," Rosemond told SOHH.com. "This isn't Game leaving Aftermath. This isn't 50 [Cent] making him leave or so on and so forth. This is strictly the history of Dre allowing his artist to blossom. And what it is, it's just a Black Wall Street/Geffen thing. It's his opportunity to shine on his own."
Since reports surfaced that 50 wrote several songs on Game's The Documentary, heads began doubting whether or not he could succeed on his own. But ask Rosemond and he'll tell you The Doctor's Advocate will meet and perhaps even exceed expectations.
"Hip-Hop wasn't built on safety. Hip-Hop was built on being who you are, being what the streets was talking about, all of those elements and put them together in rhyming on a hot ass beat," Rosemond explained. "And what hip-hop needs I believe this brother is about to bring back. There's no issues that's not talked about or rapped about and he's not afraid to talk about it. And he's not afraid of going against the establishment as we may know it today."
"And that's where my respect comes for the kid at. We took our time to do this album so that after this I can move on and do other things with Czar. But I knew with all odds against this kid, he would need our help to make sure that it's right. And that's what good management do. I can't only be with the kid when everything is cool and we stuck with him when everything wasn't cool. At the end of the day, he got a record coming out that's gon be fire and it ain't even gonna be about East Coast and West Coast. It's gon be about who can rap and who can't. He's gonna be the benchmark for that and I confidently say that."
Game's The Doctor's Advocate is slated to hit stores November 7th.
