Ice Cube Says Schwarzenegger Ignores Poverty in California

Posted at

Rapper Ice Cube attacks actor-turned-California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on his latest album. The star - real name O'Shea Jackson - accuses Arnie of spending too much time promoting himself on a national and global level and ignoring important issues, like poverty in the rapper's native south central Los Angeles.

The rapper says, "He pisses me off just by the fact that he is the Governor of California. That's enough. You know, that man should just focus his s**t on California and what he's going to do about poverty. It's rabid in the inner city. He needs to be worried about that, not anything on a national or global level.

"You've got to realize, there's a lot of money in California, but it suffers from economic greed. Nobody wants to give up their piece of the pie, so nobody can live real good without resorting to killing each other."

The Clipse Set To Scare Up Your Halloween With 'Hell Hath No Fury'

Posted at

The Clipse are set to release their long-awaited album Hell Hath No Fury on Halloween.

The album will feature production from The Neptunes and guest apperances from Pharrell, Slim Thug, the Re-Up Gang and Roscoe P. Coldchain .

"It's just fitting. Halloween — let the demons loose," Malice told MTV at Battery Studio. "It's a fresh album. W e're in a totally different place. You can hear what we've been through. It's good to let people in on it. It's been sitting up, and it's good to let the cat out of the bag. The feedback has been good. It's a classic. ... It's going to be reminiscent of classic East Coast hip-hop."

The Clipse say that around the same time Hell Hath comes out, they want to drop a movie to coincide with it.

"We're doing Hell Hath No Fury the movie, and the soundtrack is all [our crew's] Re-Up Gang music," Pusha T said. "We're trying to get the soundtrack together. We already have great music. It's just a family soundtrack. You're not going to hear any other artist outside the family.

"I'm not sure when we're gonna start shooting, but we're about to write it up," he continued. "It's basically like [Jay-Z's film] Streets Is Watching. It's gonna be a defining moment. It's the album, seven videos off of it, narrated, and the story line is what we've been doing the past four years on hiatus. The videos fit around the story.

Hell Hath No Fury hits shelves on Tuesday , October 31, 2006.

Former Co-Host Sues Star and Clear Channel

Posted at

Keysha Whitaker, known to radio listeners as Prozac Girl, the former co-host of The Star and Buc Wild Show, has filed a multi-million dollar lawsuit against Star and Clear Channel Broadcasting, according to a report in the Connecticut Post.

Whitaker first joined the show in 2003 while it was still being broadcast on New York’s Hot 97 and later accompanied Star to its new home on Hartford’s Power 104.1 in April of 2004. The lawsuit alleges that on May 24, 2004, Star spat on the show’s producer, Miguel Candelaria, and threatened the other show members in the room by saying, “All of you in here are going to get anointed with my spit.” Whitaker reportedly told Candelaria after the show that she would resign if the shock jock insisted on spitting at her. Whitaker objected again after the producer spat at another show member a few days later, after which she was dismissed by the producer and escorted out of the building.

The fired co-host claims she later received a phone call from Star where he told her she was fired because she was “sick” and “disabled.” The lawsuit claims intentional infliction of emotional distress, assault, defamation and violation of the Americans with Disability Act, the latter charge stemming from Whitaker’s bout with depression that spawned her on-air nickname. On Wednesday (July 26), U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall declined Clear Channel’s request to dismiss the suit, although she did dismiss the assault charge after learning that the host didn’t actually spit on Whitaker. That particular charge could be reinstated if Whitaker’s attorney can prove that Star did in fact attempt to spit on her.

Do Or Die Rapper Charged With Murder, Girlfriend Charged With Witness Tampering

Posted at

Belo, (pictured in center) a member of the Chicago rap group Do or Die, has been charged in a murder case that took place in 2002, while his girlfriend is being charged for witness tampering.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the rapper (born Darnell Smith) is currently on trial for the death of Raynard Pinkston. Prosecutors allege that Belo shot and killed Pinkston in November of 2002.

However, the prosecution recently ran into some obstacles that may amount to witness tampering. According to the prosecution, there were eight or more witnesses to the shooting, but recently several have recanted prior testimonies to defense attorneys.

The Chicago Tribune reports that Felicia Hamilton, Belo's 34-year-old girlfriend, has been charged with two felony counts each of communication with a witness and obstruction of justice. Yesterday (July 27) Hamilton was ordered to be held without bail.

"There are four total witnesses who say they got paid off," Cook County Assitant State's Attorney Brian Sexton told the Chicago Tribune. "We suspect they all got paid off."

Hamilton became a witness tampering suspect in March, after allegedly paying $500 to one of the witnesses in Belo's case. After reporting the payoff to police, the witness wore a wire during another meeting with Hamilton where he was told "not to come to the trial" Sexton said.

Currently on probation for possession of a controlled substance, Hamilton will appear in court again Tuesday (August 1) to face the obstruction of justice and communicating with a witness charges. A judge will determine whether her probation was violated in court on Wednesday (August 2).

Belo's group Do or Die is best known for their 1996 single "Po Pimp," which also featured fellow Chicago rapper Twista. The group has released seven albums as well as a greatest hits set in the last decade. Last fall the group broke into the Top 40 hip-hop charts with their latest album, D.O.D.

Lopez's Night Behind Bars Exposed In New Book

Posted at

Details of Jennifer Lopez's night in jail are to be revealed for the first time in a new book written by one of the cops on duty the night she and then-lover P Diddy were arrested. In his expose, Notorious C.O.P.: The Inside Story of Tupac, Biggie and Jam Master Jay Investigations from the Hip-Hop Cop, Derrick Parker recalls Lopez sobbing as she was handcuffed to her cell door.

Lopez and rap mogul Diddy, real name Sean Combs, were arrested as they attempted to flee from a New York nightclub after a shooting incident in 1999. Lopez, who has always maintained she had nothing to do with the incident and has never been charged, seemed "traumatised" by her first night behind bars, according to Parker. He tells US tabloid the National Enquirer, "The cops had her handcuffed roughly to the top of the cell cage. (She was) still in her little club outfit, a long pink coat with fur on the collar. "J.Lo was crying and upset - her agitation exacerbated by the fact that her arms had been locked upright in an uncomfortable position for at least an hour... (She was) breaking down."

Snoop Dogg Launches New Magazine Tha Dogg Pound DVD

Posted at

Snoop Dogg, Daz Dillinger, and Kurupt have not stopped recreating the brand for the West Coast this year. They have decided to launch a DVD magazine that covers behind the scenes footage of the Dogg Pound as well as up and coming artists and issues that relate to the Urban community.

Ms. Shemia Miller, VP of Publicity reveals, 'They consistently create business ventures that not only employ members from urban neighborhoods but also they create venues that give an outlet for creative expression. This will be a wonderful business venture.' With Snoop Dogg's Cali Iz Active CD, Kurupt's movie line ups and Daz Dillinger's up coming album on So So Gangsta you'd wonder how would they find time to create yet another business venture? Well they have. And it is expected to be the biggest DVD magazine out this year. They are intent on ensuring that there is a balance in the music industry. Daz Dillinger explains, 'We want to stay in complete contact with our fans. This is evident by the way we have our My Space online, the way we are on tour with our fans is a clear indication that we are serious about fan appreciation, without them we wouldn't be here. This DVD demonstrates our love to them and for them.'

No newcomer to multi-media, DPGC has decided to have Mr. Arnold White be the Associate Executive Producer on this project. Snoop Dogg explains, 'We are in full alliance and have a team of individuals who are going to ensure that we are modern and that we are staying in the fold of new and interactive trends.' Dogg continues, 'Our DVD actually will have content that the fans can choose themselves. If they want to see more of my freestyles or if they would like to see how it is to go on tour, this is the DVD magazine to have. They will receive exclusive things. This is our backstage pass to our lives.'

According to Kurupt, 'The question I get most often is, 'Who do you all think will be the next DPGC member or what songs are coming out next?' This DVD will be the answer to the fans questions and actually to those who are interested in issues that isn't covered by B.E.T news and the regular news channel. It's an array of things.' Tha Dogg Pound DVD will hit the newsstands August, 2006 in selective stores. And world wide September, 2006. Arnold White reveals, 'What is very important as a record label executive, I get 'How do I become the next rapper, or the next promotions guy? And this DVD magazine will have how to in that area as well. It's just an overall well thought out DVD magazine, and I am glad that Snoop Dogg, Daz and Kurupt are putting it out.'

Gnarls Barkley Mashes it up with Biggie: Internet sensation Gnotorious B.I.G. mixes Biggie vocals with Gnarles tracks.

Posted at

A group calling itself Sound Advice has come forward with a new mash-up album that blends the tracks of Gnarls Barkley with the vocals of late rapper Notorious B.I.G. The result? An 11-track album entitled “The Gnotorious Gnarls Barkley.”

With such songs as “The Last Nasty Boy,” “Smiley Faces Hypnotize” and “Who’s Dead Wrong,” the collection – already an Internet hit – has been repeatedly taken down from MySpace.com for the past several weeks due to copyright violations. However, Sound Advice – K. Ross and Elsewhere – have made the tracks available on their Web site www.gnotorious.com.

“It all kind of started off as a joke,” Elsewhere tells Vibe.com. “We did a couple tracks and they sounded kind of hot, so we ran with it.”

Gnarls Barkley member Danger Mouse is certainly no stranger to the mash-up phenomenon, as his infamous 2004Grey Album” mashed lyrics from Jay-Z’s “Black Album” and tracks from the Beatles’ “White Album.” The CD ran into several cease and desist orders from the Fab Four camp because Danger Mouse never sought their permission to use the music.

“The cat that obviously made his name off of it, we’re kind of getting him back in a funny way,” Elsewhere tells Vibe.com of Danger Mouse, who formed Gnarls Barkley with former Goodie Mob member Cee-Lo. “Hopefully, if by some chance he did hear it, I think he would get a kick out of it.”

Sample some of the tracks yourself, courtesy of the Gnotorious Web site:

1. The Gnotorious B.I.G.
2. The Last Nasty Boy
3. Smiley Faces Hypnotize
4. Who's Dead Wrong
5. Can I Get With Ya Crazy Butt
6. Necromancing Things
7. Gimmie the Online Loot
8. 10 Fung Shui Commandments
9. Gone, Biggie, Gone
10. Just a Party and Bull****
11. Victory Coming

"The Source" Finally Goes On The Auction Block, Mag Up For Sale Today

Posted at

The Source Magazine went on sale yesterday (July 27) to the highest bidder.

A rep for the magazine confirmed to SOHH.com that an auction selling shares of the magazine is currently in progress. As SOHH previously reported, Textron Financial Corp. has been attempting to sell former Source publisher Dave Mays' 82% shares in the hip-hop publication since Mays has failed to repay $18 million dollars loaned by them in 2002. Previous attempts to schedule auctions for the sale of the magazine were postponed.

In related news, The Source could end up in the hands of Complex Media, part of Marc Ecko Enterprises. Last month, an Ecko rep confirmed that the company is interested in purchasing the shares up for sale. Ecko currently owns Ecko Unltd. Clothing, G-Unit Clothing, Zoo York, Avirex and Complex Magazine.

While Textron does control the 82% shares formally owned by Mays, the Black Enterprise Private Equity Fund, backed by Earl Graves, Sr. and Citigroup, own the remaining 18% of The Source. That fund loaned $17 million to The Source in 2002.

The Source's new board of directors ousted the Mays and magazine president Raymond "Benzino" Scott back in January after serious concerns were raised about the magazine's leadership based on ongoing legal troubles including the failure to repay their debts.

LL Cool J Inks Seven Figure Deal To Develop Drama For CBS

Posted at

LL Cool J has signed a deal to develop and produce a new dramatic television series with Alchemy Entertainment and CBS, a major television network.

The deal, worth an estimated seven figures, marks LL Cool J's return to prime-time television after the rapper/actor's stint as "Marion Hill" in the television series In The House, which aired on NBC and UPN.

According to terms of the deal, the rapper will have freedom and access to various producers and actors, whether with the networks in-house studio producers or outside. LL chose CBS after strong interest from other major networks.

In July of 2005, LL Cool J and Alchemy Entertainment inked a multiyear movie production deal with Lions Gate films. The first film under that pact is a thriller titled Overnight.
